How about a few more billions for illegals? Who never paid a dime into Social Security.
We need fact checkers .
Everything you’re saying about the future of Social Security runs counter to what I understood the facts to be about the unfunded liabilities of Social Security.
If I’m wrong so be it. But for you to say that there is no social Security financial problem runs against what has been talked about for decades.
So this discussion doesn’t go anywhere without having fact Checkers to really present the facts.
JEEZE you would think they could change their playbook, they have played this now for so many years that the people on social security NOW have heard this same BS for decades NICE TRY DEMS!!!
Well, if it works, why not?
insolvent by 2023?????
SS will go negative in about 7 years. That is when the youngest boomers hit 67. The youngest boomers born in the 60s is the largest part of the generation. But the demographic drop off after that is huge. Gen X is a very small generation. The millennials also known as Gen Y are even bigger than the boomers. So you are right that there is a decade where every boomer is getting SS and the generation following which is in its most productive years is too small. But that scenario quickly reverses. As the Gen X’ers replace the boomers in retirement and the Millennials hit their most productive years. Then SS develops a surplus again.
So what do we do during the red decade which starts in 7 years. Well we already know. We just start printing. We have already printed far more money than the whole SS problem. And the world did not end. Another thing that is happening is inflation. As inflation grows the problem gets small. As more young people are making far more money to pay into SS.
There are those who would like to adjust SS to move back the retirement date or means test the recipients or to move up the the wage limit on FICA. All three adjustments would get rid of the decade of red. But its only a decade. And then it goes into surplus. So you would be making a permanent fix to a temporary problem.
The reality is the problem will work itself out without any change to SS. We will likely just print the money. As a percentage of our current debt its not that large. We have been spending out of control for years. We can handle this. Also, the inflation is making the problem smaller. And we could always cut our budget somewhere else. We never will. But we give all sorts of benefits to other countries and to illegal immigrants. There is waste every where. If we really cared about the debt, we could cut other things for 10 years. We won’t do that. And we shouldn’t change SS either. It will be fine.
Good post(s)
Anything demoncrats propose *terrifies* me.
They are trying to kill us all off, one way or another.
Besides, the thought of depending on the government to provide for me terrifies me.
I suppose it’ll come down to getting everyone dependent on the government for money, housing, and food, and have situation like in China or under Saddam, where the people are rationed only a month’s supply of food (If it’s not spoiled)at a time so they can better control the populace.
What’s curious is that they never run out of money for illegals.
Thanks to Fauci’s little monster, some of us won’t make it to retirement.
Somehow, though, we have plenty for Pedo Joe’s alien invasion.
I don’t see a problem in raising the retirement age, since it won’t affect me. Likewise I don’t see a problem in eliminating the earnings cap, since it won’t affect me, and I don’t see a problem in raising the SS tax rate, since it won’t affect me.
But cut the the benefits by one dollar and I will RAISE HELL about it, since that does affect me.
“Not this crap yet again.”
In seriousness, I suspect that this is the RNC Fail Safe in case the Democrats are unable to take out Trump as a candidate by throwing him in jail.
Again trying to scare people and make them think grandma will have to eat pet food.
Speaking of scaring people, anyone read The Social Security Board of Trustees annual report on the financial status of the Social Security Trust Funds? That should really scare those on Social Security.
Raise the retirement age and the GOP is dead. It’s dead anyway after Trump.
What other govt program, agency or function IS solvent? Why is SS always singled out?
exactly.
me me me me me me me me me me me me
“me me me me me me me me me me me me”
As long as I get mine, why should I care if the country goes to hell?
...but don’t laugh too hard, there’s a lot of that in our circles, even here!
