Republican plans to 'cut' Social Security and raise Retirement Age 'should terrify voters'

Experts are warning that the Republican Party's plans to overhaul Social Security should "terrify voters".

Earlier this year, the Republican Study Committee (RSC) published its FY 2024 Budget Protecting America's Social Security.

Policymakers in Washington are negotiating changes to the retirement benefit system in light of concerns that the Social Security system will become insolvent by 2023.

According to analysis, Republicans are proposing cuts to Social Security and raising the Retirement Age.

Alicia H. Munnell, the director of the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College, is sounding the alarm that "rich" Americans will not be the only ones experiencing these cuts........

"Many households are likely to retire with little other than Social Security benefits, since at any moment in time less than half the private sector workforce participates in an employer-sponsored retirement plan.

"Policymakers do need to address Social Security's long-run deficit, but the fact that a majority of House Republicans may support a plan that cuts Social Security by a third should terrify voters. Why put out such a document?"

Social security has several trillions of dollars in future unfunded liabilities. I understand the whole third rail of politics thing , and we’re not supposed to say anything about it. But the problem is real.

It is frustrating that we apparently are not allowed to talk about the problem , but the problem is there whether we talk about it or not

Kick the can down the road. Or we'll scare old people into voting for the Democrats.

So let's keep our mouths shut.

There’s plenty of money. Stop spending it all on all these countries. Put time limits on welfare. Stop spending money on illegals. Cut 50% of the government workers.

It’s a Democrat program. Let the Democrats solve it.

The essence of pre-Trump Republican political stupidity was the to take the blame for the Social Security tax increases, while Dems got the credit for “saving” Social Security.

Just the fact that any republican is speaking about this shows that the party does not want to win. SS is not broke. In our printing press country they can certainly pay out SS even through the one decade where its expected to go red. After that the boomers will sufficiently be dying off, and the next generation (X) is so small that SS will be fine with the current rules. The oldest Boomers are turning 80 in 2025. The Boomer generation is quickly melting away now. If we can fund the Ukraine war and hand thousands of dollars to everyone during COVID we can certainly fund SSN through a few tough years.

Few Republicans push this.

Lindsey Graham makes sure to talk about before every election.

Pence is for it.

Every Year these Bozos pass $1.4 or $1.2 TRILLION dollar infrastructure bills.

Money for everybody and anything - except …
