I went to the plane crash site by myself on a simular light rainy late afternoon. No one else was there. It was very eery. I almost expected the plane to come down through the tall forest canopy.

Mason City came up in my research today. Saw the photos where the plane memorials are.

I saw a documentary about Don Mcclean and “American pie”.
He described how listening to Buddy Holly inspired him to write music, and how devastated he was when Holly, the Big Bopper, and Richie Valens were killed.
“American Pie” was about that day, “The day the music died”.
There was a segment that visited that crash site.

An excellent documentary. Very bittersweet.
