A safety down day is a typical, almost obligatory, response to an accident/incident that occurs during peace time.

I think you would see a similar response in the other services.

Safety down-days were usually reserved for known or suspected system-wide faults in maintenance or parts quality back in my MCAS Tustin days. OE mishaps would see one or more getting kicked down the road, so to speak..
