Regrettably, as reported by IFLscience, the hybrid fox-dog met an untimely demise earlier this year due to unknown causes.

Cool but I had to get to the end of the story to find out that the mother is a “Pampas fox”, a species more closely related to wolves and jackals than other foxes, it is apparently impossible for dogs and true foxes to interbreed and this specimen is already dead.

This was in my neighbors yard probably 5-8 years ago. Sent it to the university because it was thought to be a coyote/wolf hybrid. University came back and said it was a healthy coyote.

He’s adorable, but foxes are monsters until at least two years old, especially males.

They get mean during mating season and pee everywhere. And their urine is STINKY. We use it to scare away skunks from our house. (IL doesn’t allow us to interact with nature. Period.)
