It depends a lot on where you live. The most dangerous places are the least well armed primarily due to state anti gun mandate. Even if you don’t carry, you are more ready due to the increased likelihood you or I would be nearby in Constitutional states.

How ready do you need to be. I can’t afford an M-60 (thank you Reagan and the NRA). I might have rifle, but nothing in the way of real deterrent because my local Walmart is out of Claymores my county has zoning restrictions on concertina wire fences and nobody around here thinks there is any real threat - I hope they’re right.

Saw the pictures of Hamas terrorists calmly walking through Israeli towns carrying weapons, searching for civilians with impunity - no fear of being fired upon.
That would not happen in most American towns - they would be facing serious fire from houses and yards along the way.
