When I was in the USN, we had a crusty Chief Ordinanceman, and I heard him say one day, as he nestled the ever present mug of coffee in a circle of people:

"Good Morning, Chief! Good Morning, Chief! When I retire, I am going to get myself a dog, and I am going to name that dog "Chief". Every morning, when I get up, I am going to kick that dog in the ass and yell out "GOOD MORNING, CHIEF!"
