When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men in a society, over the course of time they create for themselves a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it.

” immoral greedy sadistic culture “

So you would give the worst among us the purse strings ?

Rather then let each man give as he sees fit ?

Our country was designed for a moral people, if me have lost that ... so be it ... we are done.

Why on earth would you add Social Security to that list? That is not a forced charity as you have it listed. That is each individual taxpayers money. That is a Democrat talking point to call it a government benefit. It is not a benefit. That money is each persons contribution. It is not the government’s money to hand out, although they treat it as such.

Exactly. They’re desperately looking for an axe to beat up Johnson with. Apparently, they didn’t find anything in his financial disclosure, so they got to pick at something.

“Why on earth would you add Social Security to that list? That is not a forced charity as you have it listed.”

It absolutely is... I don’t want to pay in SS taxes so that some old fart can just go blow it all at the Indian Casino.

Because SS is exactly the same argument, no different than taking my money and giving it to SNAP. This concept is not selective. If one is government forced charity so are all government assistance/insurance programs and credits, Let me keep that SS money and I will fend for myself at the end on my own merit and not collect a dime of YOUR money.

Just as tax credits are charity, Medicare is charity, utility subsidies are charity, SNAP is charity, then so is SS.

How is Social Security, something we paid into our whole lives, charity?

“That is each individual taxpayers money. It is not a benefit. That money is each person’s contribution.”

Actually it is not. This is a misnomer and needs to be clarified. First of all only 50% of the total contributions are from the individual. The other 50% is extorted out of employers for each and every individual working for them. And in turn their customers pay more. The only compensation for matching this 50% of contributions is the ability to write it off their business taxes. Which harms other taxpayers in general because that revenue not collected just kicks the can of debt down the road and shorts other programs. Which then creates a “reason” to raise taxes to everyone across the board.

“How is Social Security, something we paid into our whole lives, charity?”

Consider this fact... How much did you pay in total over your life? How much do you collect a year? How many years before what you paid in is used up? How long will you live and collect what others are paying in after that initial amount you paid in is gone?

Most over 70 have already used up every dime they paid in.

After what you paid in is all used up then you are now receiving charity forced from the taxpayers. Just like medicare, SNAP, and all other government aid.

I have never opposed helping those in need. I just propose that the Federal Government cancel SNAP, give the money back to the states and let the states care of their citizens. I don’t see how Federal money is better than State money.

” I just propose that the Federal Government cancel SNAP, give the money back to the states and let the states care of their citizens.”

And that makes sense, local control is better. Which they actually do, the states disperse it and control it.

The problem is a lot of states would not be able to afford it on their own.

I’ve seen those huge people being junk food with their food stamps.

OTOH, food prices have skyrocketed thanks to Biden’s refusal to drill in North America, and trucks use a lot of gas bringing food in. Many families and elderly people really do need help buying good food.

A Ukrainian couple moved into my neighborhood. My smart paralegal friend looked up Ukraine resettlement plan. Free everything. They’re driving a very expensive new car.

At one point during Obama’s reign my county had 20% on SNAP. I don’t even know what it is now. All I know is that one can apply for it online and get a card in the mail if they qualify (they don’t tell you how or if you do online, however.)

States that cannot afford to do it on their own still have taxpayer money funding SNAP. Let those states have their taxpayer money that’s spent on SNAP and then we’ll know for sure if they can’t feed their own citizens. SNAP is open to billions in outright fraud each year and it needs to be cancelled in its entirety.

“States that cannot afford to do it on their own still have taxpayer money funding SNAP. Let those states have their taxpayer money that’s spent on SNAP .”

That is exactly how it is already set up right now. The states receive the funds and control and disperse them locally with their own rules and requirements.

“SNAP is open to billions in outright fraud each year and it needs to be cancelled in its entirety.”

Good for you... Must be nice to be rich and never been truly hungry without anything to eat for a few days in a row. Not everyone is that fortunate. And no... Not EVERYONE is defrauding the system.

Too many honest needy folks will suffer, and yes there are honest needy folks who do indeed really need it. In fact many even here on the FR would be out on the street without it even though they collect SS and/or modest pensions. For many it is the difference of being forced to chose between utility bills or starving.

But it absolutely does need to be overhauled so that it actually does what it is intended to do without opportunity for abuse. There are several fixes that would actually make it practical, productive, and functional.
