Beijing’s Coal Boom Is Here to Stay
Watts Up With That ^ | 11/21/2023 | Vijay Jayaraj

"China's coal consumption increased by more than 4% in 2022. Coal imports in August 2023 were the highest since 2015. China is ramping up its import from Russia and Australia and continues to increase imports from Indonesia. Despite introducing in 2021 a policy to curb emissions of carbon dioxide, Beijing has yet to announce any cap for steel production. Like steelmaking, the manufacturing of cement is energy intensive, with coal accounting for up to 85% of the energy used in the process. China consumes as much cement every two years as the U.S. did over the entire 20th century.

Europe is back in the coal business, thanks to the US taking out their gas pipeline from Russia, and India is also big-time into coal. The US is about the only major country that has killed off its coal industry, but then we’re a Fascist State so our Congress doesn’t even get to vote on it.

We could be mining our own coal and exporting the excess to other countries and use it to increase our standing. We could do the same for oil. For that matter we could do the same with the so-called “rare earths”, many of which we have here but refuse to mine.

“Don’t listen to what China says, watch what they do.”

Trust me, the ones at the very top agree with you and understand that there is NO WAY that they are going to stop China from consuming massive amounts of coal, at least not with its present government.

Yet they MUST be stopped, or the planet will cease to exist (at least in their Greta-warped minds).

So, what to do? Look for the jugular. As the article states, Russia and Australia are the big suppliers of coal to China. Australia is easy to deal with, one phone call. But doing so will drive up the world price and make Russia a FORTUNE on their coal exports. So that has to wait.

Ok, what about Russia - easy, cause a regime change by forcing Russia into a war (or standing by while millions of Russian speakers are genocide’d, plus NATO takes over their main naval base - again, that would force a regime change). Then, IF a war over Ukraine were to begin, COLLAPSE the Russian economy with 11 rounds of ‘sanctions’.

Too bad, Russia saw it coming and is now doing better than the countries imposing the ‘sanctions’, and far better than Europe, since one of the ‘sanctions’ was the US cutting off the supply of cheap natural gas to Europe.

So, no dice, short of a nuclear war, China will continue use as much coal as it wants, and Russia will be happy to fill-in should Australia decide to shoot itself in the foot and cut off China from coal.

Plus Uranium. I was at a national park recently looking down from a ledge and the ranger said that used to be a Uranium mine, but is now closed. Regardless of what she and others may have thought, her statement explained a lot to me, at least.

I believe we still are shipping coal trains every week from WY to the port of Tacoma for export. At least that is my understanding from my railroad connections.

I've visited China four times....the first visit being in 1981,the most recent was in 2018. On all four visits I spent time in Guangzhou (formerly known as Canton) which is a major city an hour or two north of Hong Kong.

During rush hour on my first visit you say many dull,drab,Soviet-style buildings...a few buses...many military trucks and 750,000 bicycles.

In 2018 you saw many glass and steel skyscrapers and bumper-to-bumper traffic of Toyotas and Buicks (yes,Buicks). Also, the air was so thick and dirty that it was far worse than any fog I experienced in London or San Francisco.

It's well established that Red China is responsible for half of the world's air pollution while only representing about one-seventh of the population.

AC-130 obliterates truck AFTER it launches missile against US troops. China adds more coal than we can cut back in our foolish folly of zero emissions, Arizona AG will not permit hand count and threatens to sue county. The list goes on and on and on from just this morning’s news. I find myself hardly caring at all anymore. What is the point? We are destroyed already.

A few years ago, while in South Africa,we were driving north from Johannesburg to Kruger National Park. We were stopped at a rail crossing for almost 20 minutes while a train passed. There must have been 40 of those huge freight cars being pulled. Our guide told us that it was coal heading for a port in Mozambique and was ultimately destined for China. He told us that coal exports to China were a huge part of the country's economy.

I would not say China is on the way up anymore.
In fact the Matthews China Fund(I unfortunately own shares) is at the lowest price in several years.

China’s population was adjusted down by 100 MILLION people recently from 1.5 Billion to 1.4 Billion. Probably just a rounding error or they have been lying. All a result of the one child policy.

Foxcon is no longer making smart phones in China.
Even when I buy clothing now at Walmart and Tractor Supply the pants I bought are made in Bangladesh now. Not China.

Younger people in the twenties in China are having a hard time finding jobs.

The Ghost cities remain empty. They were the first warning sign years ago.

China consumes as much cement every two years as the U.S. did over the entire 20th century

Cement from lime produces enormous amounts of CO2. What to do? I know! Let's have the U.S. go back to the Middle Ages in penance.

There was a story on Fox Business last week that China plans on building 300+ coal fired power plants.
Cheap electricity and no pollution standards are one of the main reasons why is it so much cheaper to manufacture in places like China.

The other principal reason is there is no future threat of legal actions when your employees all die of cancer at the age of 55.
Do you really want YOUR son or daughter working in the Lithium Battery factory?

So, if you are your average Chinaman you might as well smoke em if you got em. The air is going to kill you anyway.

Based on the bar graphs in that article the largest ports for shipment from the US are Norfolk, VA and Baltimore, MD. Which means the coal is coming most likely from PA, OH & KY. Then loaded on a hopper rail car and shipped to the port for export.

The exports from New Orleans may be coming down the Ohio and Mississippi by barge to the port.
Some of the coal shipping out of Baltimore may also be coming down the river by barge.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em! On my most recent visit to Hong Kong we took a ferry ride to nearby Macao...a former Portuguese colony that's now controlled by China. Macao is known mainly for gangs...and casinos. We went into a couple of the casinos for a few minutes and found, not surprisingly, that most of the people there were Asians...presumably Chinese.

The air was so think with cigarette smoke that we thought we were gonna die.We had to get out!
