I’m a Newsmax person myself these days.
Well, when you consider that the population of America in 1940 was about 132 million people , versus about 335 million today, we can see that the per capita circulation is far lower now, even if the circulation today is at 1940 levels.
Newspapers have not been very successful in getting Internet subscribers, as the circulation of the actual printed newspaper has declined so severely.
Wouldn’t their 1940 levels be high?

Small town newspaper - Local news & gossip, who was visiting who on Sunday afternoon, so & so and girl friend was visiting his mother over the weekend, high school basketball & football, etc. All set by hand.
Next notch up - county newspaper - same with addition of county business. Both weeklys.
Bigger towns would have dailys with less local stuff and national news. As I recall, AP was one of a number of services.
Except for local talk radio, local news has disappeared.
Anyone still listening to MSM has no clue of what’s really going on. This is why Donald Trump still has to go around pretending he’s not the President and making believe there’s going to be a 2024 election. Being awake is exhausting. 😆
The “Nightly News” these corrupt leftist activist are peddling are as worthless as it gets. Seriously, who is going to listen to NorDUH O’Donnell talk about feminism and support leftist politics?
