Democrats never had to guess where their SCOTUS nominees stand on the issues. The Republicans, on the other hand, had to use stealth nominees in order to get them past a hostile senate.

So true. Can anyone name a SCOTUS nominee made by a Democrat president in the past half century that moved even an inch toward the center (from the left of course)? It is only Republican appointees who become 'moderates'.
