I know it’s not a popular opinion in this forum. But it’s probably the corporate policy being enforced here. There is a reason these employees are released for protecting merchandise from theft. We’ve got to use our brains here and think this through. The path of least resistance is to get out of the way and let the police do their job. That keeps the employees and the customers in the safest position. That’s who we’re protecting here. An employee who offers resistance, presents an unpredictable risk factor and, regardless the outcome, makes the already volatile situation more dangerous. The least risk option to protect lives and safety is to ignore the protecting ‘property’ part. And step out of the way. Merchandise is insured for dissipation, property can be replaced, repaired, restored and even improved. People generally cannot, and that’s where the insurance risk resides.

There is a presumption that there’s an effective law enforcement infrastructure in place. But the corruption of the prosecutorial system is a whole different story.

There is a presumption that there’s an effective law enforcement infrastructure in place.

In practical terms, for the present day, that is a catastrophically FALSE presumption. The government has abandoned its post. We're on our own.

In long-range policy terms, it is a catastrophically bad presumption to encourage. Safety is ALL of our responsibility. Crime prevention is also ALL of our responsibility. The cops, our servants, are just there to take reports and clean up the mess. When seconds count, the cops are only minutes away.

Well then - let’s use our brains.

This was not a ordinary theft. It was a theft of a firearm. It wasn’t a lamp shade or can opener. There is a distinction and it is the dealers responsibility to keep it secured - just as it is yours to keep yours secured.

More brain use....the typical customer that buys such a product is not likely to respond well to corporate mistreatment of employees going above and beyond in their job duties. Hence - it behooves Academy to THINK about their approach to this particular case.

3rd - more brain use....Blindly following the drone mantra of “it is corporate policy” really is not ‘using our brains’. It is blind acceptance and LAZY thinking.

Plus enter the 4th Brain use - Now the criminals have verification that they won’t be harassed when taking Academy’s guns. Free guns. Come in with 10 of your guys and clean the place out. GREAT new fodder for anti-gunners to say selling guns needs more restrictions and less proprietors.

Come on man. Use what God gave ya.
