From Aug 2003 to Feb 2004, my National Guard Battalion was tasked with guarding the gates at Ft Hood. To free up activated soldiers for other duties, they switched to civilian personnel (there were 9 entry gates at that time requiring hundreds of guards 24/7/365).
Now mind you, this was during the war on terror’s high point. Well, the contract was awarded, to none other, than an Arab muslim. He showed up at my post one day for an inspection, dark skin and with a turbin.
Not to be stereotypical, but this was a scary hand-over of power during heightened tensions. Luckily never happened that we came aware of. All the workers for him seemed all Americans. Buy we still transfered with fingers crossed.
