We weren't the only ones tracking the space craft to the moon. If it was faked the Russians would have made a big stink. You can be sure that the whole trip was monitored by the USSR from start to finish.

Not that I buy into the lunar conspiracy theory, but why would that many NASA civil servants and contractors need to know if that or any other mission was being faked? Couldn't they be duped even more easily than ordinary folks? If they were alert and competent, they'd not need as many career protections which still make it so hard for the government to bring in competent people.

Just consider the implications for secrecy in faking the moon landing. Hundreds if not thousands of NASA civil servants and contractors would have to knowing perpetrate this fraud upon the public.

The Russians never landed humans onto the Moon, and I don't know how they could have known whether or not whatever we sent out there had actual humans in it or not. Even today the international scientific community is still debating about lunar details such as whether there's much ice on or near the surface.

They looked using an Earth-based telescope located in (I think) Arecibo, Puerto Rico (heavily funded by the National Science Foundation, NOT NASA...). Humanity didn't have that much capability 30 years ago. Lunar buffs still contend that plenty of ice is nevertheless mixed with the Lunar "soil" even if frozen lakes haven't been found on the suface.

Easy explanation:

Somebody persuaded the Russian leaders to remain quiet.

As I recall, the Russian space program seemed to lose speed a couple of years before we "landed" on the moon.

Perhaps that's when they were convinced to let us appear to "win" the race.

Imagine the number of people on a typical movie set. Then the scientists and engineers eployed to insure authenticity, the communications officials knowing the transmissions were not originating from the moon, the faked hardware construction, etc, ect. It doesn't take long to get to a cast of hundreds.

Yes, and I suppose the thousands of people that made the moon landing possible were fake too. And all the science and engineering projects were fake. The engineers were fake. The shuttle, orbiter, and lander were fake. Buzz Aldrin, Armstrong, and the other 8 astronauts who have been on the moon were fake. The return vehicle was fake. The moon rocks that have a mineral composition that can only be found on the moon are fake as well.
