Fla. Man's Death From Fish In Mouth Not Alcohol Related (But is Stupidity Related)

PALATKA, Fla. -- A man who died from choking on a live fish had not been drinking or taking drugs, according to toxicology test results.

Henry Thomas Buckner, 27, of Middleburg, died after getting a four-inch bream stuck in his throat. His stepfather and two friends were fishing on the Ocklawaha River when they noticed Buckner bleeding from the mouth.

"No one saw him put the fish in his mouth," Capt. Keith Riddick of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said Monday. "They heard gurgling, turned toward him and saw him bleeding from the mouth and the fish sticking out."

The men could not remove the fish and Buckner was pronounced dead at Putnam Community Medical Center on Oct. 19.

Family members denied rumors that Buckner had been trying to imitate a stunt he had seen on television, Riddick said.

Palatka is about 50 miles south of Jacksonville.

According to the Darwin theory of evolution, the species adapts to different conditions by eliminating the weaker of the species through attrition. This includes the intelligence of the specie. Whole fish eating is not required for the propagation and future survival of the human species as this incident shows.

I think you are right, or if he had ate a shad instead..those bream have some sharp dorsal fins.

Of course, Its best to filet them 1st.

They eat much worse on fear factor, cow eyeballs and monkey brains are some of the better items on the menu.

I hate that part, the stunts can be pretty cool.

Also...what was this fish made out of, that it couldn't be torn apart in order to save his life ? Very suspicious, to me. I DID know a guy who fed a convict a telephone...which, if it were made out of a fish...presumably wouldn't have killed the man.
