[Vanity] Prayer Request
Posted on 12/26/2003 7:38:07 PM PST by Starter
My apologies for this thread, folks. But at this point, I'm willing to take a longshot.
Last Thursday evening, my mother was struck by a car while taking an after-dinner walk. She had been making slow improvement over the past week, but in the past 48 hours, she's nearly stopped responding to outside stimuli. There's one more test that she needs to go through before she is declared to be braindead, and I'm hoping for a miracle. If you'd like to say a quick prayer for her, I'd appreciate it. Her name is Cheryl. Thanks.
BTW, I think this is the third Freeper parent to pass away over the holidays. Unfortunately, it hasn't been a very happy holidays.

"Dear Father, we come to you again asking for another miracle.
If it be thy will, please restore this mother's mental faculties.
Let Cheryl be healed, dear Lord, from this tragic accident.
We pray in Jesus name, Amen."
Adding my own heartfelt "amen" to your prayer, TexasCowboy.

No need to be sorry.
I just wanted to make sure the right person received the prayers.

Thanks again for the PING, Tonkin.
Starter, I know many prayers are being said tonight for your mother. And please, don't feel anything but love in asking us to pray. {{{{{Starter}}}}}
Lord, Jesus, we humbly kneel before Thee in thanksgiving for all You have given to us. Please, Lord, help this family feel Your love around them right now. Guide the hands of those who are trained to heal, and please ease the fears of those who love this dear lady. We ask that You hold them in Your mighty embrace, now and forever more.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.

I'd like to thank everyone for their prayers and concerns. Here's a quick update on my mom's condition.
The quick version: She's improving.
The more involved version:
On Thursday (Christmas Day), we were informed by the neurologist on call that my mom was no longer responding to stimuli. My father and I spent Friday getting my mom's affairs in order and preparing for the worst. Today (Saturday, for the latecomers to the thread), my father arrived at the hospital to check up on my mom, and to meet with the staff, which we presumed would be about legally declaring my mother to be legally dead. When he arrived, he met with the assistant director of the neurology department, who informed my father that he disagreed with the earlier diagnosis. And the tests that he had run were showing definite brain activity. He added in the standard caveats of "She may pass away at anytime" and "We don't know how much brain damage that she's suffered. She may not be the same person once she awakens." but the docs no longer seem to think that death is no longer knocking on her door. He may be circling round the block, trying to find a parking space, but he isn't at the door yet. (If anyone would like a more detailed recount of the medical side, let me know and I'll freepmail what I know to ya.)
Once again, thanks to everyone who took time out to pray for my mom. She's still a long, long way from recovery, but that's a lot better than where she was a day ago. My family and I thank you for all of your concerns and any prayers that you'd like to offer for her continued recovery would be appreciated.

Sure thing. Here's her brief bio for you.
She's in her mid fifties. Married, two kids (both adults), two grandkids (My sister's, aged one and two). She dotes on those kids, and she'd be visiting them right now, if she hadn't been injured. Professionally, she's a special ed teacher for a metropolitan school district. (I'll leave it nameless, just in case. Her union can be vindictive.) Politically, she'd probably be reading FR, if she wasn't completely computer phobic.
As for the accident itself, I'm not 100% sure what happened. (The cops haven't sent us the report yet.) From what we've heard though, it was just an accident. It was dark, and my mom crossed the street at the wrong time. The oncoming car didn't see her (or wasn't able to stop in time) and on her end, there's often a car parked in such a way that people at the intersection can't see if a car is coming either. The car's driver wasn't drunk, and he and several other witnesses stopped to do what they could until the ambulance arrived. Like I said, it seems to be just two people in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Any other info you need?
