Lack of commitment to the run is definitely a big reason. Another one I can think of is that they were fond of play action in the fourth quarter, when everyone in the world knows you're going to throw never go play action. I have many memories of seeing Marino fake the handoff and get tackled with his back still to the line, because there were three year old kids in the stand that had never seen a game before that didn't bite on the fake.
