When I was asked to write an article about being chosen as Sea Gal of the Year, I immediately agreed. However, it took me a while before I was actually ready to start writing. You see, what this means is truly quite difficult to put into words. The Sea Gal of the Year Dinner was held on Friday, December 19th in a beautiful ballroom at Carillon Point in Kirkland. This dinner is so special to us because it comes at the very end of a journey that was started back in May. Such a tremendous amount of hard work and sacrifice goes into being a squad member, and this dinner gives us an opportunity to reflect back on that.

Our annual dinner has many long-standing traditions. We recognize our four Squad Leaders, Sherri selects our Pro Bowl representative, and the Sea Gal of the Year is revealed. As is our custom, the prior year’s Sea Gal of the year - this year it was Linda from the 2002 squad - was on hand to present the trophy. I was absolutely shocked when she placed the award in front of me.

What makes the Sea Gal of the Year award such an honor is that it is voted on by every member of the squad. To be chosen by your peers is especially meaningful, particularly when you consider the types of amazing women that make up the Sea Gals squad. I was humbled and honored to be awarded this distinction.

This was my sixth year as a member of the Sea Gals. I started my career as a Sea Gal in 1996, at the age of 19. I came into the new opportunity with my eyes wide shut, not realizing exactly how this experience would ultimately impact my life. I cheered for three years at the Kingdome and had two years off before rejoining the squad for the 2001-2003 seasons.

I have been blessed with the strong friendships I have made, the poise and confidence I have developed, the amazing fans I have met, and the community outreach that has touched my life.

I have decided that this will be my final year on the Sea Gals squad. I have had so many unique and wonderful experiences over the years, and I feel like it is time to pass on that opportunity to a new member to the team. I absolutely cherish the time that I have been a member of this organization – there truly is nothing else quite like it.

I want to publicly thank the members of the 2003 Sea Gals squad for making this such a memorable year for me. It has been a privilege cheering alongside you, and I will never forget any of you. I wish you the best of everything in whatever direction your life takes you.

I used to grow sea-monkeys as a kid... they didn't have breasts... very depressing trying to milk them
