TheVerbivores | 03/01/04 | TheGrimReaper

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

vainglorious; adjective:
vaingloriously; adverb

1. adj. Characterized by or exhibiting excessive vanity; boastful. Proceeding from vainglory.

Today's word is offered up in (dis)honor of last night's Academy Awards....

Etymology: I have no idea.

Good Morning Students. Welcome to class!

Class is now in session. The rules are simple; you get a grade if you use the WFTD in a sentence, haiku, limerick, or quatrain. You get a "+" if you make a link, or make the [substitute] teacher laugh, or you offer the appropriate bribes. I hold the grade book; the whip and chair - although only temporarily.

Happy MONDAY!

WFTD could be applied to near any Democrat nationwide

Well, I tried to include the lefties...they must be feeling horribly irrelevant lately.

"...19 days until Spring (March 20th, 01:40 am Eastern)"

It's already quite warm here in central Maryland. I turned my furnace OFF over the weekend. The cat doesn't know it yet, she's curled up next to the baseboard unit.

I understand Punxatawney Phil has entered a witness protection program...

They're seeking a replacement for him. Seems he ended up in the pot for Sunday's dinner of Stew.

Dullest Oscars Ever! proves the futility of vainglory. Glad I didn't bother to watch.

It's no accident that Hollywood's favorite movie, collectively, is "Dumb and Dumber".

Similar thing happened to my late Grandad Z, except he learned that he only had one kidney.
