Martha Stewart Was Convicted Because of Jealousy and Hatred For Successful and Superior People.

Martha Stewart faces upto 20 years in prison, for the crime of being rich, successful, cultured, and civilized. There is nothng that she did, that would merit a prison term. Most women in America hate her, because she accompishes what seem to be impossible goals - balancing the roles of a career woman and top executive, and at the same time, being a first rate homemaker. This Polish girl from a working class background in New Jersey, grew up to become the most elegant symbol of this Anglo-Saxon civilization. She represents cleanliness, elegance, culture, class, refinement, beauty, self-confidence. She has always seemed too perfect. In her TV shows, she always does things right, every time. This has caused her to be hated and resented.

Right now, I am thinking of all those employees of Martha's companies that are going to be laid off, when she is jailed. This is at the time when the President and his economic team, are working overtime to create jobs in this economy. Perhaps the President should give her a partial pardon. She should avoid jail time. She should pay the $1 million in fines, give up the $65,000 she made on Imclone to charity, and pay restitution to those Imclone investors who were directly affected by her trade. And she should do community service.

Martha's conviction was due more to her (admittedly uncharacteristic) stupidity, than to her criminality. She is no thieving crook in the mold of former junk bond trader, Michael Milken, who defrauded investors of hundreds of millions.

She should not be offered up as a sacrificial lamb to the mobs of angry, resentful, jealous, hate-filled American peasants, whom, whenever they see Martha, are reminded of their own sense of inferiority. And this has little to do with her money. There are lots of rich celebrities with screwed up personal lives, going in and out of rehab. While these celebrities (Charlie Sheen, Nick Nolte, Roseanne Barr, etc) may have more money than your average American peasant, the peasant does not feel inferior to them, because the messed up personal lives of those individuals.

But Martha? She seems to have everything in order. She is organized, efficient, precise, and, even with all her money, has a work ethic that puts a Chicano farm worker in a California vineyard to shame.

One of the jurors said Martha's conviction was a victory for the "little guy". Apparently, the little guys have a small-mindedness that matches their littleness.

They should not have used the jury process as an instrument to harm someone they regard as being unapproachably superior to themselves. This is similar to the insanely large damage suits that juries are inflicting on successful American corporations, as a way of "sending a message" about how much they hate big business.

Martha's trial should not have been used to advance a social agenda or to "send a message". She should have been treated as an individual (admittedly, one who said some stupid things to investigators).

Here, Here!

Successful, superior people should be allowed to lie to federal investigators since they are more successful and more superior to us.

We are worms.

Martha is GOD!

Whether it is Clinton or Stewart, lying and obstructing justice is still a problem. Amazing how some will trash the former while defending the latter. Both deserve prison time.

Leaving out the "lying under oath", the "obstruction of justice", the "cover-up" sure she's innocent as the driven

Wasn't this a commentary on NPR this morning?

Perhaps the juror felt that all too often a blue collar working gets nabbed and jailed for crimes while the rich get away with most things, and hence she (and the enron freaks) were a victory for the little guy in that sense.

There are probably thousands of cases of the little guy getting screwed over, no press time for them or sympathy, just brush them under the rug.

Should Martha get 20 years? Not in my opinion - but she, like joe six pack caught for speeding, did break the law and was convicted on such.

No, she faces 20 years in prison for trying to defraud stock buyers of a lot more than your average ghetto punk bank robber, and then, after being asked about it, the beyotch lied.

If I hear one more television motormouth say ~The Little People~ I'm gonna puke.

What the heck is this? She's not Marie Antoinette. I'm not Fantine mired in the muck.

Well, that's my rant. I have to go and chink the mud bricks in my hovel.

Wow, starting from your first line, "Martha Stewart faces upto 20 years in prison," you spew falsehoods. Martha, most likely, will not even serve two years in prison

Martha's trial, contrary to you and TV pundits, was not, "to send a message" or "advance a social issue" it was an attempt by the government to pursue criminal activity by Martha. The Federal Justice Department convicts people everyday for crimes amounting to much, much less than Martha's $51,000.00

I liked her shows and saw a few of her books, and even (pretrial) had a little sympathy toward her; UNTIL I heard that before all the 'home stuff' she WORKED AT a brokerage. Can anyone confirm that she DID work for one, and whose company?

I can just see her first project after she gets out of chokey: "delightful place setting decorations you can make with the butts you pick up in the exercise yard". :D

Martha Stewart faces upto 20 years in prison,

No, she faces 1 - 4 years in prison.

Civics lesson:

The people elect Congress. The people's representatives set the sentence range for a particular crime. The appointed judges ignore the legislative mandate, and get together to set their own sentence ranges.

Martha should have thought about them, too, before committing illegal actions that would land her in jail.

Martha Stewart was born in N.J. into a family of Polish heritage. Her grandparents used to live in the Western N.Y. area.

For as long as I could remember, moja matka would have a saying for people like Martha who got too big for their britches and carried an air of superiority about them: "They think their s*** doesn't stink". Not a good reason (or the actual reason) she was convicted of a crime, but an attitude that doesn't garner much sympathy, either.
