I think the attitude is, "Let the socialists ramble on so that people can see how evil they are." As long as the poll numbers show that Bush is, more or less, even with Kerry in April then things are good. That may be their thinking. :-)

That may be their thinking. :-) The problem is that the Republican "leadership" in Congress has not pursued matters like Memogates I and II. They've dropped the ball on a number of matters.
This all predates "the election".
I agree that President Bush may have told Republicans in Congress "that's not the way we are going to do things" (the supression of details about the Democrats' trashing of the White House was a tip off of this strategy).
Maybe it does show a different approach to the Democrats' strategy of the politics of personal destruction but sometimes the best defense is a good offense.
Rope a Dope only works when you can get the media to get your message out (or the media to expose instances where the other side torpedoes their own agenda).
