"He used to jump from buildings and land on his horse's saddle and never cried or shouted out in pain."

But pity the poor horse!

"That sounds like an invitation to a frisky evening.
Got leather?"

I asked for that, didn't I?

Always glad to help distress a lady.

Well, Babe, I tried greasing the pole and the wires where the birdfeeders were hanging with vaseline yesterday afternoon. No takers yesterday, but this moring I got up and looked out my kitchen window to see a befuddled looking squirrel shaking his paws. I'm guessing he tried to shimmy across the wire where the feeder was hanging above the patio. Then, later this afternoon, I saw one of them sizing up the pole in the yard with the two feeders on it. He took a flying leap and grabbed the pole and went spinning around till he let go. ROTFL! It was hilarious.

I also put up another squirrel feeder on the OTHER side of the yard filled with sunflower seeds and peanuts and corn. Put some more on the ground at the base of a couple of the trees too. For now, they seem content. I also got a package of that Squirrel-Away stuff that you use to treat the seeds. Haven't used it yet because the feeders are all full right now and you need to mix it ahead of time with several pounds of food. It won't do any good for the blocks of seed, but it should work with the open feeders. Surprisingly, the one feeder the squirrels haven't bothered is the finch feeder.

Libby.. I was listening to a gardening show this morning on the radio while I was sewing..and I think they mentioned this Squirrel Away stuff.

I think they said if you use it, that you will lose your ground feeder birds.. Check the label and see what it says. I don't recall if they said it was harmful to the birds or not..

Just a thought. ;)

He's a real winner Resty. Being born and living in Massachusetts most of my life made me disgusted with him and all the Kennedy's. None of them are worth a hill of beans.

Bulieve me, it a futile attempt to thwart the squirrels unless with one of the metal feeders I described. I got mine for about forty dollars.

I had tried everything. The president of the Audubon Society here told me to put cayenne pepper in the birdseed, as it wouldn't hurt the birds, but would make the squirrels very uncomfortable. Many of the products on the market have cayenne as an anti squirrel ingredient. Did it work? NO

Another person told me to use fox urine. He said that squirrels won't go near a fox run. Since foxes follow the same route everyday, he told me to splash some along a path to my feeders and continue to do so. Did it work? NO

I put up those little gyro thingies with corn attached for the squirrels. I bought one of those cute little benches for them to eat on. Did it work? NO

I know you don't want to shoot the little critters, but you might as well buy the metal feeder before you shoot yourself in frustration. LOL

Since you are in Austin, I would recomend the chemical rather than the mechanical lobotomy, although it takes longer.
On the other hand it will give you more time to aquire tattoes.
I am told they are spectacular on really pale fine skin like yours.

It's pretty good ... Some things I didn't know .. some things I found interesting when you compare to today's politics

It's called Winston Churchill - the Wilderness Years, 1929-1939
