DS -

I've been away from news and the internet all week traveling and didn't take my computer w/me. I didn't know anything about kerrey and hamilton walking out on the pres - what's up with that?

Also re: Derby tomorrow -- my money's on Smarty Jones! I'm back on a plane tomorrow afternoon but hopefully will catch the Derby on a layover at O'Hare. If not, will you yell for the both of us for Smarty? (Hope you have a lovely hat for the race! Have a mint julep on me.)

Kerrey finally apologized but not to the President and VP. KERREY 'SORRY' FOR SLIGHT

May 1, 2004 -- Yesterday's Post.Democratic 9/11 commission member Bob Kerrey apologized yesterday to the families of the terror victims for dashing out in the middle of the panel's Oval Office interview with President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. Kerrey was reacting to The Post's front-page yesterday - "Oval Office Insult" - which described how he and fellow Democratic panelist Lee Hamilton slipped out of a side door of the White House on Thursday about 40 minutes before the session was over.

"I apologize to the families if they're offended by this," Kerrey told CNN. "But I do think that I've represented the families' interests and did so in the questioning to the president."

Kerrey and Hamilton's early exit - in the middle of the commission's one and only chance to question Bush and Cheney about 9/11 - stunned many Washington officials, as well as family members.

Okay I will put my money on Smarty Jones, lol...but I won't mind if Pollard's Vision comes in 2nd...maybe an exacta box?

Kentucky Derby hopeful Pollard's Vision has his nose rubbed by exercise rider Michelle Nihei in his stable at Churchill Downs Sunday, April 25, 2004, in Louisville, Ky. Named for Seabiscuit jockey Red Pollard, the colt is blind in his right eye, just as Pollard was. (AP Photo/Ed Reinke)
