I am no fan of cell phones. I know some people need them for one reason or another, but I still don't like them. I especially don't like them when they are used in restaurants.
One of the things I say to myself when I see a compulsive cell phone user -- and there are many -- is: "Some people can't even go to bathroom without being on their cell phone." (What I actually say to myself is a fair amount more crude than that.)
Well, I was proved right about that yesterday afternoon.
My dog and I were at the park. They have those typical porta-potti units which they set out in spring. I think they're disgusting, but they do serve a purpose. In my mind, it's get in and get out as quickly as possible.
We watched as some girl went into one while talking on her cell phone.
I hope it wasn't one of them newfangled phones with a camera in it!
Cordless phones work in the same disgusting way. Twice I have been talking with folks on the phone and they've taken it into the bathroom with them. Just plain sick if you ask me.
I've been known to FReep while in the ... nevermind.
whats' the big deal? why can't people talk on their cell phones without a bunch of rude people getting on them for it? Maybe it's an emergency. maybe it isn't, but is it really anybody's business?
Mr Sandpit is a transportation manager for a large plant. He's responsible for both shifts. Even after he comes home from work, his work cell is always ringing (someone calls in sick, safety incidents, late shipments, etc) It's always something. I've been tempted to turn it off, but that would get him chewed out. And yes, it has rang when he was on the can.
The worst is the girl who answered her cell phone during her job interview.
It's my business when someone next to me is yelling into a cell phone about garbage when I am in a restaurant.
I'm not sure I would have hired that one. Interview equals over.
That's legitimate. Most of what I hear people talking about is nonsense.
I still think he should leave the phone off when he is in the bathroom.
,,, maybe three months back, or less, I met a friend of mine for lunch at a bistro a couple of hundred metres from my office. He had one of these FALCONs and wasted no time in showing me the razzle dazzle features it had. One was the ability to run a two minute or more vidclip.
It was an educational that entirely skirted around our usual "how's work; how's the family; where's your next holiday; what shares have you bought lately?" routine. He should have got a commission from TELECOM.
If they are on the phone, they are not giving full attention to what they are doing, whether it be driving or cutting tomatoes, We had a j@ck-@$$ out here nearly kill two teens while trying to read a text message on his latest toy.
and how is this any different from some one distracted by reading the newspaper? or singing with the CD player? or putting on makeup? or fumbling for a lighter? Or listening to Rush?
it is a slippery slope when we start persecuting people for being distracted. Why I'd even bet you've been distracted whilst ont he road a few times. I know I have.
rudeness is rudeness. I don't know what the person was yelling about. maybe something is wrong at the other end and he's trying to fix it. if he was being rude, the problem is rudeness, not the prop used in the being rude.
I don't disagree.
But for some reason people usually seem to talk more loudly into their cell phones than they do in normal conversation. The phones themselves often make loud noises. Very few of the conversations I overhear are necessary. Few are business-related, and I have never heard one that has qualified as an emergency. It's almost always BS.
Fwiw, I have the same opinion about children in restaurants. I grew up in an age when children were either made to stay home, taught to mind their manners, or removed. These days people -- at least the ones around where I live -- seem to let their kids treat restaurants as the equivalent of the local playground. I don't think that is considerate to the other patrons. Maybe at McD's, but not at nicer places.
Likewise, I think if people need to talk on their cell phones, they should go outside.
So I think.
You married?
Thanx for the reply. For my part, I usually talk in a hushed voice when on my cell phone, which is rare because it is only used for real emergencies, and they're nobody's busniness. I do often hear people shout into the phone. My guess is that they're newbies who haven't figured out that increased volume doesn't help the signal. It may also be that there is a lot of background noise and the person is trying to be heard.
Most people don't go out of their way to be rude. It is relatively simple to forgive ignorance. and the rude people will never listen. What bothers me is that cell phone users will sooner or later be persecuted ala cigarette smokers unless the rhetoric dies down and people don't defend them.
For over 20 years.
