Jessica Simpson Beats Spears To Daisy Duke Role

Britney Spears's hopes of landing the role of Daisy Duke in the forthcoming movie version of the 'Dukes of Hazzard' have been dashed-after bosses handed it to Jessica Simpson.

While star Spears had expressed interest in playing the sexy character from the '70s TV show, singer Simpson has been chosen as the blonde who will fill the extra short shorts of original Daisy Duke Catherine Bach.

Simpson's manager father Joe, 'She is really excited.' Simpson herself adds, 'I wanna wear those shorts so bad.'

The film about three redneck cousins, two corrupt public officials and a souped up Dodger Charger car, begins production this summer.

I guess Britney slitting her wrists in her last video didn't help her in the Q meter. What an image for all those little girls.

They're looking to cast Anthony Anderson as Boss Hogg. I have never seen him in anything, so I can't comment on his acting skills, but a black Boss Hogg just doesn't work for me somehow.

Do you suppose they told Anthony Anderson that the character's full name is Jefferson Davis ("Boss") Hogg? Just wondering. ;-)

Good job. You win 2 free round trip tickets of your choice and at your own expense. Consider yourself a winner.

Bottle blonde, a bit scrawny and saggy - YEP! Just what Hollywood loves.

Hollywood's new rendition will suck and be so pc that it will make one nauseous.

Yup, and we thought Charlies Angels 2 was bad.

How could modern Hollwood even begin to capture the essence of Dukes.

Like trying to teach a dog to play guitar.

I thought about it and there is really only one black man that could do justice to the role of Boss Hogg... Al Sharpton!

All of these posts are cracking me up.

Do we really care if the actor/actress who is playing a role is smart or dumb? I don't. If I go to see the Dukes of Hazzard's movie I'll go to be entertained, not to see if the actor can calculate the quantum rotation of the third moon of Jupiter.

Frankly, I imagine that the producers of this movie are going to cast the Daisy Duke character as little more than eye candy... which is fine with me. Is that "being true" to the original Daisy Duke character who, as some pointed out, was courageous and a host of other admirable qualities? Probably not. But if I wanted to watch the original, I'd buy the DVDs.

Movies based on old TV shows are bound to disappoint if you go in with the attitude that it's going to be a new "episode" of the show. The ones that work well for me are the ones who casually spoof the old show. Starskey and Hutch, Charlie's Angels, The Brady Bunch were all great movies (IMHO) because they kept the same flavor of the show, but weren't afraid to spoof the show as well.

Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson doesn't matter to me who plays Daisy Duke. As long as she dresses the part and the director gets her to act the part, then we're all good.

But y'all are right on one thing... a black Boss Hogg just really misses the point... unless they are going for irony...

I think the original Daisy was simply eye candy, same for Ellie May Clampett and Mary Ann on Gilligans Island.

Nothing wrong with eye candy and sometimes they develop into an interesting character too.

You confessed to not even having read the thread, so your protestations about the content of that thread have me ROTFLMAO. How you can talk about standards when you don't even bother to read a thread baffles me. And you want to come across as the adult? What a joke.

Please, feel free to speak on any topic of your choosing, you'll certainly find me more willing to consider your ideas if you actually read the content of the thread on which you choose to comment.

I'll definitely be on the lookout for your comments going forward, knowing how well researched they are (not).

Thanks for the laughs today.

I agree completely. This is supposed to be a movie based on the show. This is a southern redneck town.... having a black Boss Hogg is unrealistic and is a reach at best. They are going overboard in trying to get diversity into every aspect of everything.

This is adolescent subject matter that is right up your alley. Maybe when you grow up kid, you won't be so confused or puzzled with life.
