42 Percent Of Americans Pee In The Shower - 7 Percent Never Bathe

PISCATAWAY, N.Y. (Wireless Flash) -- Urine trouble now. According to a new survey, at least four out of every 10 Americans pee while taking a shower.

According to a shower survey sponsored by VertiSpa, 42 percent urinate while bathing, certainly pissing off the 58 percent who don't.

That's not the only stat splashed from the shower study. The average shower is 101 degrees Fahrenheit and uses nearly 50 gallons of water.

-- 52 percent of Americans sing in the shower, with "Singin' In The Rain" being the top tune.

-- 53 percent of people shower in the morning, while 29 percent wait until evening.

-- Finally, the scariest stat of all: 7 percent of Americans claim they never bathe at all.

Lysol® makes a great Shower Curtain Spray, which I use everday, and would aid those who pee in the shower, which I don't do. Yuk.

Ewww. Splash about? Sounds like a bath, not a shower. And I am not saying it is the height of civilization. I just have seen no evidence to support the assertion that it is the bottom or anywhere near it.

I also happen to think that peeing in the shower is actually BETTER hygene than doing it standing up in a toilet. Pee is sterile at first, but becomes "dirty" fast. In the shower it never gets a chance to hang around. But some ALWAYS splashes it's way out of the toilet. Also, some are not very good "shots." That actually DOES lead to a very unsanitary situation.

So I hereby make the claim, backed by the previous paragraph, that peeing in the shower is MORE sanitary than using a toilet!

Nya, nya. (I just added that last part to increase my credibility).

I got three words for ya: Soaking in piss.

"You're soaking in it..."

Most people over 40 should recognize that. If not, time for a little trip down memory lane.

They saw an orangutan stand on his head and pee in his own mouth.

Never, ever, ever, *ever* do a Google search for "tubgirl". Those ignoring my advice will wish that they had listened. Seriously. If you claw your eyeballs out, don't blame me.

Not to mention . . . Peeing in your shower will make your drain and your pipes stink! Ultimately, your whole house will smell bad. Don't believe it? Have your plumber haul off your toilets and just do your biz in those open pipes. Whew! Modern toilets are designed to keep the smell from escaping into the house. Pee in your shower and you might as well throw your toilets out!

(Forget everything I just said if you're German or French. We know you guys don't have showers.)

I don't know how to respond to that. Some truths are just self-evident.

That sounds a lot like, "it's just how I've been conditioned, but I've never actually stopped to wonder if it made sense."

Caesar: "Pardon him Theodotus: he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature."
-- Caesar and Cleopatra, Act II, George Bernard Shaw

"That which is unchallenged and exercised as habit rapidly becomes ritual. When this occurs, dissent becomes an object of surprise, if not resentment."
-- B. Carmon Hardy

Wonder what percent I am in, I pee in the shower when I am not bathing? Saves water, you know.

Oh,no! Thought my spouse was the only one who did this. I've been complaining about it for YEARS. Now he has confirmation of this being legit.

The Brits used to tongue-in-cheek define 'Gentleman' as one who would get out of the BATH to take a pee.

Scene is the 2 stoners sitting in a hot tub surrounded by women...

Cheech; Hey man, the waters getting warmer !

Chong; (with a devilish laugh) Yeah, yellower too !

Cheers,

How should I know? You don't think I reach out and feel it do you? That would be gross.

But why bother?

A. Because it is disgusting

B. Because should you happen to have a bladder infection it is not harmless.

C. It can help prevent incontinence in the future.

Not to mention . . . Peeing in your shower will make your drain and your pipes stink!

No it won't.

Ultimately, your whole house will smell bad.

Nope.

Don't believe it? Have your plumber haul off your toilets and just do your biz in those open pipes. Whew!

That's a false comparison, since by removing the toilet you'd be removing the built-in "trap" as well. That's an invalid comparison to the shower, since shower drains *do* have traps, they aren't just open pipes, as a toiletless toilet drain would be.

Modern toilets are designed to keep the smell from escaping into the house.

And modern shower drains are also designed to keep smell from escaping into the house -- if they weren't, gasses from the community sewer line could enter the house through the shower drain:

Ironically for this thread, the plumbing term for that device is a "P-Trap"...

Pee in your shower and you might as well throw your toilets out!

Your conclusion does not follow.

Whenever somebody tells me how much more class and morals Americans have when compared to "turd worlders," I always point to statistics such as this.

These idiots must take LONG showers. I'm in and out in 5-10 minutes and never have I had to urge to color my bathwater.

A classic!

Tonight was the Puerto Rican Day Parade episode which didn't make the rerun circuit in the beginning.

Yes, but if you look at that P-trap carefully, you'll see there is a segment of pipe above the trap but below the floor of the shower stall. Bacteria will build up in that segment of pipe and it'll stink. And if enough people in your family pee in the shower every day, it'll stink almost as bad as any public urinal.

So you see my conclusion was indeed valid.

ONLY if you never run water in the shower. But then, your point -- such as it is -- applies equally well to the trap in your toilet... If you never bother flushing.

But since that's not how people actually use toilets (or showers), your point is rather irrelevant.

If your argument were valid (and again, it's not) then showers would routinely stink up the house from the effect of bacteria on the grime and dead skin cells you wash off while showering. Try plugging up your shower drain and then letting your shower water sit there stagnating for a week or two... It's no rosewater either. But in actual use, your washing water flushes itself to beyond the P-Trap due to the clean water that follows it down the drain during a normal shower. And so does any other liquid that goes down the drain during the shower...

So you see my conclusion was indeed valid.

No, I see that your conclusion is still incorrect and based on misunderstandings about how the plumbing actually works under actual use.

1. Why are you looking for ways to denigrate Americans?

2. What do "morals" have to do with this?

Nothing so underrated as a hot shower and a good pee...at the same time.

Especially when you're belting out some old show tune.

Look at the bright side -- the whales, flounders, etc. live in it 24/7, and it doesn't seem to hurt them any.
