Victoria Secret's Gender Descrimination
Aug 4, 2004 9:43 am US/Mountain
It's unbelievable that in this day and age you could walk into any store and be denied a service just because youre a man! But that's exactly what happened to two men who went to a Victorias Secret store in Murray with a free product offer, so they decided to Get Gephardt.
Here's the offer! Free cotton underwear for the bearer of this promotional ad and you can bring up to six of your friends and they all receive free panties! So when one woman took five friends with her, how come the two "men" were denied the service?
Look at the promotional ad Leslie Fiet got from Victorias Secret: free cotton underwear for her and her friends
Went to Victorias Secret to take up an offer on bringing in up to six friends and getting some free underwear," said Leslie.
But when Leslie and her friends picked out their freebies, the clerk told them women only--no men.
She just said no, sorry men aren't eligible for this offer because they are not our customers! said Leslie.
Well sure, men are customers. There goes one into a Victorias Secret store now, later emerging with a gift for his girlfriend, he told me. And nowhere on promotion does it say men only but Kyle Bennett was turned away as he says he wanted the free panties to go with other gifts he was buying for his wife.
It's not right! It's definitely gender discrimination! said Kyle.
This is insane. How can Victorias Secret be discriminating against men coming into the store to make a purchase? said Leslie.
We contacted Fashion "The Limited" the parent company of Victorias Secret, and they didn't want to talk about this on camera. But they did tell us it was a misunderstanding, a mistake and should never have happened. And they promised to make it right with the customer.
And look, nearly two weeks later Leslie and her friends got an envelope from Victorias Secret. Inside is a $25 gift certificate and a coupon for a free bra for her.
Forget the state and federal discrimination laws here. The Utah Division of Consumer Protection says the ad clearly said friends and they would have made Victorias Secret make good on that claim as a violation of the sales practices act.

This is an outrage!!! I want free panties.
Hey, sometimes a man just likes to feel pretty.
