ZoneAlarm Security Suite blocked access to port 21 on your computer

No breach in your security has occurred. Your computer is safe. What happened?

ZoneAlarm Security Suite prevented a remote computer from connecting to port 21 on your computer. This connection attempt was probably a port scan trying to find unprotected FTP (File Transfer Protocol) servers. To learn more about port scans, see the Details tab.

Should I be concerned?

No. ZoneAlarm Security Suite blocked the connection attempt, so no harm can come to your computer from it. Port scans are very common on the Internet and are not usually targeted at specific individuals.

What should I do?

Click OK to close the alert box. This does not let any traffic into or out of your computer. No other action on your part is required.

This happens on DSL often as computer address is always the same.
seldom on dial up as address changes each time you log on.

just make sure you have the most recent windows updates and at least you know the zonealarm is working...you could set your alerts to block silently and not interrupt you all the time - I have had 35,000 intrusions blocked by ZAlarm in the past 4 months...

It means you should turn your computer off for good because you can't understand simple instructions.

Sorry.

It could be a hacker trying to find a computer to break into. You just happened to be in the block of internet addresses he was scanning.

Or, it could be a harmless "spider" scanning the internet for an ftp search engine.

There are systems and people out on the internet scanning for open "ports" (ports are software connection points where communication can be established between a couple of computers) all the time, for reasons ranging from innocent to malevolent. ZoneAlarm blocked one of them, which is its job. As the other poster said, it's probably just as well to set ZOneAlarm to not notify you each time, since there's nothing for you to do about it anyway. In addition to ZoneAlarm, you should be running an antivirus program like Norton ANtivirus, and subscribing to the update service (I think Norton's is $30 a year) so that it keeps up to date. An antivirus program without updates is doing you no good.
