Well I'm 52 and can remember the tail end quite vividly.
EVERYBODY in the dorm crammed in the TV room to watch the Lucky Lotto numbers being drawn.
My birthdate was high enough that I just scratched my head wondering if they would call that high -- never heard a peep from 'em. The guy who lived in the room next to me came up #2. He didn't even bother going to another class. Just went up to his room, packed his bags, and went home the next morning. (presumably to do his duty, he didn't say a single word one way or the other, but didn't seem the type to bolt for Canada.)

Yeah, my age group is a tad young to have experienced "the peak",
and the shift in official national policy may have given us a slightly different perspective,
but it would be grossly inaccurate to say that we "do not know".
