I'm going to be covering a seminar at my college, and after reading the bulletin, I'm a bit put off. The presenter is Dr. Robert McElvaine.
The bulletin has various phrases such as:
"How does the documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 compare with the films Birth of a Nation and JFK?"
"The usual argument is that "liberal" popular culture has undermined traditional values. Consider the effects that the economic forces championed by "conservatives," which center on increasing profits through the maximization of consumption, have had on traditional values."
and
"Are there ways in which America can be seen as having "blown it?"
I'm curious if any other FReepers are familiar with Dr. McElvaine. My girlfriend and I both get the feeling he's just a liberal hack who is attempting to use college seminars to influence students to lean to the liberal left. I'd appreciate any input.
Go to the seminar. If you don't like it, make stuff up! If anyone objects, have your girlfriend tell them that the memo was false but she knows what the speaker was feeling at the time.

not quite what I had in mind, but I guess doing it that way will help me get a job at CBS!
I did some of my own research on the man. The reason for posting was more to see what some of my peers thought of the guy. I wanted less of an "official" viewpoint and more personal opinions. Thanks for the link, though!
