There's some kind of weird problem there then. I run 2 boxes, one with pro and one with home, and I've had exactly one BSOD in several years of (almost continuous) uptime.
As far as MS operating systems go, I am actually fairly happy with XP.
I'm a lot happier with XP-P than with 95, 98 or even 2000P.
But I'm dismayed at how much trouble has still occurred. And, since it was OEM in Taipei that I purchased it, MS will not AT ALL 0.0000% give me ANY support. 'Go back to OEM' etc. Sheesh.
And, of course, finding online help from them that's the least bit functional is a nightmare, first of all, and useless second of all.
For some reason, I do seem to trigger computer glitches. Have had a terminal or computer in my home since 1976. So, I'm no novice though not trained except by friends and my own experiences.
It does seem like, for some reason, if there's a way to have a problem, I'll have it. Not sure what that's about! LOL.
I try to have the best hardware and software I can reasonably buy at the time--which is usually hefty enough and above average--such as the 2 CPU motherboard might indicate.
Mystifying.
I still say, MS is evil. They COULD have done much better and have NOT done so for a very long time. NO EXCUSE FOR THAT.
They get my automatic reports on the glitches--which seem to result in little help back.
Sigh.
GRRR.
Might beautify the monitor . . .
But . . .
I don't think the
uhhhh
HD's need any lubrication!
Have enjoyed lots of MACS.
Alas, with universities and colleges using so much Word and XCEL etc., it's often problematic to use a MAC at home.
Thanks for the advice.
So I can run Larn? (snicker)

I still have my DEC Rainbow 100 B (whatever)from about 1983/4 or so sitting in my storage room in a warehouse. Don't ask why, I don't know. I think I have an MS/DOS OS version that wasn't compatible with the other IBM MSDOS that went with it.
It was such a pretty computer and very expensive. Shouldn't have bought it. The world was going another direction. But it looked good with that slick little monitor and the big keyboard.
Boy, DEC sure crashed and burned for such a great company. Ken Olsen just didn't see the PC revolution coming did he?
I thought CPM was pretty fast and simple. It cudda been a contender.
thank you, sir. you have saved me once again!!! :-)
