Yeah, the tongue sticking out was pure coincidence, not any great skill on my part. They had just finished eating supper so everybody was fat and happy. I think Tennessee was about two thirds asleep when I took it and had food all over his lips to boot.
A riding buddy of mine is severely height-challenged and taught her horse to "park out" to compensate. I know that quarter horses aren't supposed to do all that "sissy" stuff, but you'd be suprised how much lower it makes their back when they stretch out, plus they aren't near as likely to run off as soon as you put your toe in the stirrup coz they've got to get up first. I never did teach it to Tennessee, but I sure thought about it coz he's 17 hands if he's an inch. Blade is much shorter so I don't have to worry about that right now.
My mare easier. She's only about 4 inches shorter but it makes a difference swinging my right leg over.

I rode Harley today. He's still a sweetheart:), altho he seemed tired after only about an hour and half. I thought he looked like he had lost some conditioning.
I have learned to watch were I dismout Trash out on the trail:). He is the tallest thing I've ever rode, about 16.2. I can get on on the flat but I look for inclines and rocks to help. That's a long way up to haul my butt. Luckily he stands good. Your left leg will streghten with time, then you won't be pulling so much on the saddle. I think I use their manes more then the saddle horn tho.

Your roan horses are really pretty:)
I've been haveing a debt with a friend of mine. She says Rusty is a "blue" roan. She says since he has the black points that is what makes him blue. I disagree, I'd say he is a bay roan. But I looked up on the internet and it says some people call horses colored as he is as a red roan.???
How many colors of roan are there...blue, red, bay???

Oh, and one other question.:) Rusty's the first roan I've ever had. Do they roan out more as they get older, like grays get more gray till they're almost white??

Let see. There's blue roan, strawberry roan, (red roan), palomino roan and red dun roans, and buckskin roans... the list goes on.
We will have to wait until she returns from the fair tonight.
Bet they are enjoying cotten candy or candied apples right now. : )
I'd call Rusty a Bay roan since his base body color is bay. Some people want to call Blade a strawberry roan, but I don't coz strawberry roans don't have the dark points. And to me, a blue roan is a pewter colored horse with black points, INCLUDING the face. If the face is not black, they are just a gray with dark points and will eventually gray on out to white. That's the beauty of true roans, they will always be roan. The only bad thing about 'em is that any little nick or scrape turns dark when the hair comes back in. I guess you can tell that I have a thing for roans. ;o)
