Yes, you're being impatient. October surprises come usually come the week before the election. The Bush DUI "October Surprise" actually came in early November.

Something else I just thought of. Do you remember how everyone thought kerry hit a homerun in his convention speech? He ended up losing ground instead of gaining so it turns out the speech wasn't really that good. The same may become true of his debate performance. Scored on style but not on substance.

I doubt Kerry knew the debate questions ahead of time. Almost all of the questions Lehrer threw at him were softballs. He could easily launch into a stump speech and look composed. President Bush got the hard questions.
The surprise will be that Kerry, in a fit if pique, will have a midnight speech to finally explain his views on Iraq in a clear and concise manner and not one media outlet will bother to broadcast it.
Oh, err, that'd be 'October Shock.'
