This almost resembles an M1 Carbine being used as a sniper rifle. But I know that can't be. Anyone know what type of rifle this is?

Looks like two parrots.
Woops. That was the fundraiser pic! Sorry!
maybe A newer m1 variant. Most likely a modified remington 700 by the looks, but the bolt assembly is different than an normal remington. hmm cannot quite say for sure, but it is sure pretty! :)

does that look like our friend?
Yeah I think so. Does this qualify as a C&R? I've got my license and that looks like a nice addition to my collection.
You can get a Springfield M1A for around $1500. You can't get M14s because they are all considered machineguns even if they are set up for semi-auto only. The receivers can readily take the full auto parts so the ATF deems them too dangerous for us peasants.
C&R...? not famillar with that, but as in can you get a hold of one for private use. I believe so. It is actually variant of the old M14's if i am not mistaken. All you need to do is find an old M14 and throw a scope on it. They are accurate as all heck, and make nice big holes. :)
IF you are looking for accurate long arms for sniping and distance shooting another good one is a Russian Designed Mosin Nagnat m44. there are some surplus ones on the market cheap (under 100$) and the are very accurate a scope is about all that is needed.
I've got an M1 Carbine handed down from my father. I wish the US rifles weren't so expensive. It's amazing how many foreign military rifles I can buy for one US rifle.
thanks for clarifying the ability to get m14's I was unsure of that.
Curio & Relics license. It basically allows you to buy guns from interstate wholesaler/importers instead of buying through a licensed middleman.
I like my 300 mag,I can kill a deer and field dress him at the same time.
thanks for the clarification on the C&R also :)
Yeah I would say! :)
Some sort of newer M1-A1 I'd guess....SA or some aftermarket jobber.
I am a but curious....if he can take aim like that then why not a rest or at least some chopsticks or his buddies shoulder.....makes all the difference over freehand standing?
one or all of these guys will know.
That scope is a might close to his noggin tooo and the way he's holding it he might be just having a looksee.
silly question snake eaters:...is it common for military snipers to wear "glasses"?
I would agree that it would make a hugh difference if he had a rest to rest the gun on versus a free hand shot like the picture is showing. Maybe it was just a photo op or the target was at an elevation that he could not use a rest, but the picture is pretty wierd looking.
thanks...now I know it's not just me....he looks sort of like he's spotting with his rifle
i do that sometimes from my deer stand if my binoculars are acting up (or I forgot to put them in my bag)....and my Khales scope is better than any binoculars I can afford
Looks like a Ruger Mini-14 to me.
It appears to be the M21---from what I can see......
