Which pundits are these? I watched the debate on PBS and Brooks and Shields basically called it a draw. I think your pundits make more sense. Cheney clearly won.

I think the time when he used Kerry's name, was warned, and then used it 10 sec. later was a Qualye-type moment.

I've always thought Edwards was a democratic dan quayle. He lost badly.

I remember that debate well. As bad as Quayle was, Edwards was worse.

I should also say that I know Dick Cheney, Dick Cheney is a friend of mine. Senator Bentsen WAS NO Dick Cheney!

Chrissy Matthews, and even Newsweak's John Meacham...

Well, Edwards was chosen for the exact same reason as Quayle.

Of course the latter was actually a reasonably bright guy the press destroyed. Even trying to carry his water, the MSM can't make more of him then Kerry's good hair boy.

Tim Russert and Tom Brokaw seemed to agree Cheney did very well, and was very well prepared.

I had not heard the Quayle comparison. Who said that? That would be devastating though I think most would agree Edwards did better.

Please. Even Dan Quayle isn't as vacuous as John Edwards.

43% Cheney, 39% Edwards, 19% Tie
according to the ABC News poll being touted on ABC News Nightline right now. The polling sample included about 43% Republicans, 39% Democrats, and 19% Independents.

Oh, I don't agree at all... I don't think Edwards did nearly that well...

Also perhaps the quasi-gaffe when he said as a prosecutor, Kerry put 'crooks behind crime.'

Well, maybe going forward in a historical context. But, I don't even think that John Edwards looked half as good as Dan Quayle did.

I mean this was a knockout for Cheney in every aspect of the debate.

Lil' Johnny BooBoo should go back to convincing ignorant jurors with junk science, 'cause he didn't lay one glove on Dick Cheney.

Wow -- good signs. Of course, anyone with eyes to see could tell that Cheney mopped the floor with Edwards.

Hopefully this'll send the Dims back into a demoralized funk.

>>I've always thought Edwards was a democratic dan quayle.<<

I'm not sure what you mean by that. There was nothing wrong with Quayle except 1) he couldn't shake media misimpressions about him and 2) had almost as bad a time with quotations as Gore did.

Quayle's problem is that he couldn't handle instant preparation for speeches and debates. When they figured that out and prepared him differently for 1992, he was superb.

At any rate, Edwards is no Dan Quayle. Edwards is truly an empty suit who figure out how to hustle juries. I'll bet he couldn't give a deposition to save his life.

Quayle is actually rather bright. The MSM manufactured a false picture of him being stupid. Conversely, they created a false picture of Gore being smart. If Quayle was running now for the first time, I don't think they could hack up his reputation as they did then, considering the alternative information sources available today.

On MSNBC the pundits are declaring a Cheney victory in the most decisive terms that I have ever heard. Fox’s pundits actually said Edwards won the second half of the debate. At The Corner, many of the bloggers are calling it a draw. I am with MSNBC, Big Time. I have never seen a poorer performance in a debate than I saw from Edwards tonight – at least not that I can recall. Maybe someone can remind me of one.

A couple of the quotes that Tom Brokaw, Tim Russert and Chris Matthews are repeating (in awe, actually) are the one about not being able to stand up to al Queda if they can’t stand up to Howard Dean, and the one about meeting Edwards for the first time on that stage tonight. Matthews said Cheney had his ammunition and went hunting for squirrel, and he found a squirrel. Russert said Cheney could take Trump’s place on the Apprentice because tonight he told Edwards, “you’re fired.”

Now the pundits on MSNBC are talking about how Cheney made a clear and decisive case that Edwards is not ready to be a heartbeat away. First Gwen Ifill did a pretty decent job as moderator and now the pundits on MSNBC, of all places, are calling it correctly. Cheney definitely hit a home run.

One thing Matthews has been harping on for months and just can’t seem to understand came up in his analysis tonight. Brian Williams played the clip of Cheney saying he never said there was a connection between Iraq and 9/11, then showed a clip from MTP where Cheney said the action against Iraq was an integral part of the war against terrorists and especially those who attacked us on 9/11. They claimed it was Cheney saying Iraq was connected to 9/11. It was not. Let me explain this to Matthews one more time. Iraq was not about retribution for 9/11/2001. It was about preventing a 9/11/2005 or 2006 or 2007. Is that really so hard to understand?

"I'm not sure what you mean by that. There was nothing wrong with Quayle"

What I mean is that Quaylye was completely unqualified to be president as is Edwards. Both appeal to an extremely narrow percentage of the population. Both are inarticulate and seemingly incapable of grasping issues with any depth. Both were picked purely because the presidential candidates foolishly thought their boyish qualities would win over women's votes. Both are shallow and vacant. Both are... shall I go on.

Pat Caddell on Hannity and Colmes just said he thought that Cheney ran away with it.
