I did Neon work for a couple of years. The average transformer for a typical sign is in the 2000-5000 volt range, but not much current.

It's no fun going to troubleshoot an outdoor metal can neon sign when it's been raining. That much voltage can arc across air.

It happened to me several times, but the worst was at a Mexican restaurant whose outdoor seating area gave the patrons a perfect view of me getting bit.

Embarrassing.
