In honor and memory of one who gave all - wish I'd known you, Uncle Dink.

These are poems written by an uncle who died in an internee camp in Switzerland during WWII. He was a left waist gunner on a B17, serving in the 8th Air Force stationed in England - they are from his memoirs of the war.

Preface to Memoirs

All the world is waiting for the sun to rise on a bright new world.
I wait for red roses of Texas, blue orchids of home.

The Battle

The battle was hell fire but God has been there,
To help sinners yearning for proof of his care.
To show weary hearts that all is not lost,
Than victory is grand but is high in cost.
Than truth and prayer can never fail
If kept in mind heart and soul to avail.
The sinner of the truth of our God above,
Our God, our country, our all, our love.

Wild Broncs

Wild broncs have thrown me from east to west
Mad winds have blown me and blown their best
Satan has pierced me, both mind and soul,
I bleed like a river but think of the goal
And wait for the faraway angel of pain
To rise as red dust from the sandy plains
And kiss each wound of a heart red with shame
To pluck out the bullets and kindle new flame.

The Rose

The red rose you gave on a night long ago
Is still with you kiss on my heart, although
Hell's in my soul and death everywhere.
Battle thunders and rockets red glare,
Demons of hades have been at my heart
Forever it seems, and they never depart,
They burn with blue torches and kindle a flame,
They sear my sad heart - a heart still the same.

Fair Angel

From the Gold sands of Texas, Fair Angel aglow
Unfurl your candlelight wings, silver wings and go,
From our land of gay glitter, our life once carefree,
Now sad, dark and so bitter, love hurry to me.
Fly on the rainbow, on peace the bright light,
Lift your sinner low, out of the dark night,
Fly fast through the gloom, with speed of blue light,
To my lonely room, dreary cell all the night.

Mornin' Amy.

Went downtown today for the Veteran's Day Parade. The rain didn't dampen the enthusiasm as the speakers honored our Vets.

Salute offered from a couple of my buddies...

Thank You Veterans

Hey CG! Thank YOU too for your service!!! I joined the AF "to see the world" and I saw: Louisiana, Florida, Hawaii, California, Utah and Indiana! Oh yeah, I saw Scotland during a temporary duty assignment and the United Arab Emirates during the first Gulf War.

I started to repost "In their Hands" but went to bed before getting that far.

I had not seen the Darkness Graphic and Poem. (I now have them saved. :)

Great picture, Dave. We are watching the parade on channel 24. There are a lot of participants this year. It is great.

Thank you for your service.

Yep .... he was a tough old nut. I was beginning to think they would keep him on life support for an eternity.

TDY's for me included, California (March AFB 8 times for a week or 2 each), Nebraska (SAC HQ 2 months), Hawaii (2 days), Arkansas (Little Rock 1 week), Toule Greenland (2 weeks), and Canceled orders to many points of nowhere. All of this in only 4 years.

Here's a better photograph, posted by Fox News, than the one I posted earlier. I find it
haunting and comforting, his eyes alert, and his face wise but weary after a tough fight.

As it is one of the truly awesome portraits to come out of this conflict, this Marine will be
immortalized for decades. Too bad the photographer did not get his name.

He also makes me proud that we have such young fellows in our military services --
proud of him, his family and this country. Hoo-jah! ... and, thank you!

That is a truly awesome picture.

I hope he knows that we appreciate his service and are keeping him and his buddies in arms in our prayers as they continue their fight for Freedom.

"The Patriot" is a very emotional poem. If I remember correctly, CG started it as a poem about his father but could not write it because of the emotion. He changed it to represent any veteran.

CG ..... did I get close on the story?

I hope I am never asked which is my favorite graphic. They are all my favorite at one time or another.

The Graphics make the poems more special and the Poems make the graphics more beautiful.
