Associated Press

WAPATO, Wash. - A four-year-old boy mauled by dogs in Wapato could lose an arm.

The Yakima County sheriff's office said the boy was in his grandmother's back yard Monday when she saw him being attacked by three dogs, as if they were having a tug of war with the body.

She drove away the dogs and called police. They shot and killed two of the dogs. The third was trapped by an animal control officer. It also will likely be killed. The dogs are being checked for rabies.

The boy was taken to Yakima Memorial Hospital and then flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The boy's neck, arms and shoulders were torn open and he has bites to his torso and legs.

The Yakima County prosecutor is considering charging the owner of the dogs. The two dead dogs are a pit bull terrier and a Rottweiler mix. The dog held at the Humane Society is a border collie mix.

"The Yakima County prosecutor is considering charging the owner of the dogs."

Considering? The owner would have to move for his life, if that was my boy.
