Somewhere in this thread, the old timers need to snort and sputter at the notion of having one's feelings hurt by something said on a thread. Personally, I'm having a hard time abiding by the "no flaming" emphasis these days. Damn! Flaming was brilliant, witty, and sometimes visceral, but you couldn't be a wimp on FR "back in the old days." You needed your facts straight, your grammar perfect, and your forehead made of flint.

It used to take a LOT of moxie to post anything other than humor threads...and even then you'd get pasted by thread nannies. You'd quietly learn how to do a thorough search, to read an entire thread, not just the first few posts (unless you're Lazamataz), and use your spell-check religiously. The flaming made for better posts and better ripostes!

I, personally, miss the old AOL chat rooms. Log on, there were maybe, 20 rooms open, one of those being the NewsRoom, I always enjoyed the realtime thinking on your feet, arguing with idiots who voted for clintoon.
FreeRepublic gives you time to research, investigate, formulate responses to inane postings like the one you're reading now. (Gotcha);)
