So Your Computer is Running Slow

Here's your fix
So Your Computer is Running Slow

When you first bought your computer, it zinged. It was faster than the computer you replaced. It was "upgraded"! But lately something happened. It slowed to a crawl, taking forever to boot up and net surfing - especially for you dial-up users - became excruciatingly, impossibly slow. It is possible to recapture that lost speed.

What happened? There are a few culprits. We personally hate long winded explanations, so we will keep this short. Or, you can forget the explanations and just skip to the fixes. For those of you still with us, here are the three most common reasons your computer has slowed down. Two deal with slow internet browsing and one is what is causing your computer to take so long to boot up is causing your computer to run slow.

1). You have not cleared out your temporary internet files.
2). You are loaded up with programs in your start menu.
3). You are loaded up with spyware and need to clean it out.

Okay, follow us here and we will take you to the steps and the explanations. Those other guys that jumped ahead are at the same page. But you now know where you are headed.

And after you get it all cleaned up again.. stop using Internet Explorer and go download Thrunderbird. Adware and Spyware will disappear from your life..

I have been using Lavasoft's adware and the spybot programs but I found one tonight that did much better. Check out the free use version of "spyware doctor" at http://www.tucows.com/
It found 61 bugs tonight that the others missed.

Thanks, I will try that now. Ad Aware does not seem to be catching anything while I am sure my computer has.

[OVERLY SUSPICIOUS MODE 'ON']

Fair enough, but I have heard of Firefox from multiple reputable sources, and trust it enough to give it a try.

So far, I don't know that your website is safe...
What references or guarantees can you give that it isn't, say, a 'phishing' site or whatever?

Sorry, just a little paranoia on my part tonight.

Be careful of sites that promise to speed up your computer or remove spyware. In some cases these sites do just the opposite and actually install junk ware programs. Three free downloads actually work and are spyware free:

Ad Aware

Spybot Search and Destroy

Crap Cleaner

...or they could just eliminate all this tedium by buying a Mac.

I have MS IE and I'm not sure it's the fastest program on the block.

Do you really think Mozilla Firefox is that much faster or easier to use? Does it work well with my other programs and my Charter broadband?

Maybe not "faster" but using Mozilla is like being into a manogounous w/in marriage relationship. Whereas using IE is like going to a brothel with a 75% AIDS rate!

What, Tucows? Tucows doesn't belong to that other poster. Tucows has been around forever and a day - excellent site for software, shareware, and trialware.

Ah yes, I'll just run up to Best Buy and pick up the latest Mac upgrade program compiler for quantum electrodynamics field theory because I feel bored on FR tonight.  (Forgive, I couldn't resist!)

It is a common freeware & shareware download site. The tool found a bunch on my system that adware missed. Try it and see if it finds any on yours. It listed several hijacker infections and a bunch of other junk.
