What a moronic post. Listen, I won't deny that the area is chock full of libs, but this is just ignorance.

Boston fans hate everyone who's played for 'em? BS. So they've booed people. Yankee fans booed their beloved Derek Jeter this season for crying out loud. It's part of sports, getting booed. It doesn't add up to anything.

Do you realize what it looks like when you say "Boston fans hate every player they've ever had"? I'll tell you: it makes you look like a fool and a bitter one at that.

They were trying to wreck Pedro's arm? That was the decision of evil Bostonians? No, it was Terry Francona, a first year manager who isn't from Boston. And the D-backs once pitched Randy Johnson on no days rest in the World Series. Some conspiracy.

If you hate how New England votes Democrat every year, just say it. Don't demonize everyone. If you're gonna spew, then don't discriminate; say what you said to every Red Sox fan on Free Republic. There are plenty (or were you not around to see the Freeper playoff threads?).

I was at Yankee Stadium for the Sox 3 game sweep back in April. I can tell you that Jeter and the newly acquired A-Rod were booed vociferously.

One of the best sports moments in Boston in recent years was when Clemens pitched his supposed last game here with the Yankees two years ago. He left to a standing ovation from the Fenway crowd that gave me goosebumps. It's been years since he left and in spite of the fact he went to the Yankees, we'd take him back in a heartbeat. Same went for players like Fisk and Fred Lynn.

Boston fans know their baseball. We cheer them on passionately when they win and boo them every now and then when we want them to do better. Same as everywhere.

I meant Johnson VS Schilling.

I'd prefer him pitching with us rather than against us, but Schilling pitches with more heart on the mound than just about any pitcher in baseball. I'd take him against anyone with a big game on the line. He was nothing short of inspiring throughout the playoffs and is worth every penny the Sox pay him.

Johnson and Schilling were the best one-two punch I have seen since Koufax and Drysdale. (That shows how old I am).

Me too. It hurts that the surgery to repair his ankle injury might make him miss the first month.

Schilling has talent, heart, and devotion. Johnson has supernatural power.

Why do "conservatives" worry about Mexican immigrants and not the vermin in New England?

Don't you mean Mexican illegal immigrants?

"They will field the best bad team in baseball history," Martinez said at a news conference Friday.

Ahem, let's see what you have to say, Pedro, come next, ohhhh... June or so. You know, when the Mets are already out of the race and forgotten by all? It'll be interesting to know whether all of the money was really worth it in the end; perhaps you and A-Rod could get together and figure that out.

Pedro is all class. Trashing the team that offered him exactly what he asked for, simply because someone else was dumb enough to offer him more. The Mets will regret this signing before all is said and done. Pedro is all about Pedro and nothing else.

Where do you think the unfounded rumors about Pedro's labrum being 90% torn, and him not wanting to get an MRI, even though he got one for the Mets, came from? The Red Sox owners, of course, once they realized they couldn't keep him. They did the same thing with Nomar, and they've also leaked negative stuff to the media about Derek Lowe and Orlando Cabrera. Not to mention the franchise's history of trashing other stars (Clemens, Boggs, Vaughn) as they walk out the door.

But Pedro's no Nomar, who didn't really fight back when he got smeared by the Sox. Pedro's smart and articulate and feisty enough to fight the Red Sox ownership at their own game. Hats off to him for doing so.

Schilling will be your Opening Day pitcher. There's a reason his former teammates called him "Red Light" -- the day that word got out about Pedro going to the Mets, Schilling had this dramatic announcement about his ankle. What a coincidence. Mark my words -- he's going to have a miraculous recovery, and be able to pitch Opening Day. What a drama queen.

Yet the Sox spurned a very good shortstop, Orlando Cabrera (they wouldn't even take his calls), in favor of Edgar Renteria. Yet I don't hear Sox fans grumbling about how Renteria left the Cardinals for the Sox due to the extra money Boston was willing to pay him. Nor do I hear any Boston fans saying that Sox management should have stuck with Cabrera. Funny how that works!

Let me be the first: I really liked Cabrera. I didn't think he was the .320/40/120 type, but the guy had *heart*. He fit in with the other dirty helmets well. I've been a little surprised, since I haven't followed the hot stove *too* closely, why I hadn't heard his name at all. It seemed a foregone conclusion that he was just gone, yet I never really heard why. And I think it's a little unfortunate.

I, for one, don't want The Best Team Money Can Buy ((TM) Steinbrenner) just for the sake of winning. I understand that's what they're *supposed* to do... but I'm a little more romantic (and a little less business-like) about the whole thing. I'd rather have a competitive team that I could be proud of as a group of guys. I want the O'Malley days of the Dodgers back, not this garbage where they trade away all of their talent, or lose them to free agency, only to restruct a new FrankenTeam of former free agents in hopes at just "making a run".

Or I want another beer. Either would do.

My feeling is that if he brings along a little extra drama, so what. He keeps things interesting and is tailor made for the baseball and media climate. Schilling is one of those rare commodities in sports - he puts his money where his mouth is and delivers.

Never got to see Koufax and Drysdale pitch, but I'll take your word for it. I honestly wouldn't mind hearing that RJ ends up with the Yankees. A move like that just gets the competitive juices flowing. A Schilling/Johnson matchup would be akin to the Pedro/Clemens battles of the last several years.

This is exactly why the NFL remains the best run sports league out there. There needs to be some sort of salary cap in baseball. Free agency has ruined baseball.

I think it's horrendous that the A's have to trade away a pitcher like Tim Hudson in exchange for prospects because they can't afford to siogn him to a new contract. These small market teams are afforded such a brief window of opprtunity to win with their young players before they lose them all and then have to start the process all over again. The Yankees payroll this season will likely exceed $200 million while the small market teams will have about $30-$40 million to play with. Absolutely ridiculous.

Agree!

It warms the heart...in the middle of Christmas bashing, rising insurgencies, Scott Peterson's mood swings and Cialis commercials...to have a Red Sox thread:) Thank God for baseball!

WEEI had lots of grumbling and agreed that Renteria and Pedro's were the same as far as take the money and their comments were nearly identical about "respect". The difference is the bashing that Pedro has been dishing out since then. Very over the top, but expect that from him.

Pedro has been going downhill over the past four years. He is not a good cold weather pitcher, which could be his arm. The Sox were brilliant in holding him until St. Louis instead of pitching in Boston. Got both the rest and warmer weather. He will not do well in NY in the early and late part of the season.

Cabrera was mentioned on WEEI as not contributing to the "chemistry" of the club. True or not, that seems to be the reason for his departure without much of an attempt to sign him.

I enjoyed Letterman's comment that Martinez will like the Mets, since, compared to the Sox, he will get every October off.
