IT's a desktop---AMD/AThlon/XP....I can't turn it on until I disconnect my own. I brought it home with me. I never thot about the power supply....how can I tell if it's burning out? Or if the battery is dying? Try booting from a floppy first. If it does the same thing, then you have a hardware problem

Not true. A lot of viruses launch from the registry and booting to a floppy will not get around the problem.

What do I need on the floppy to boot up? I am presently on a win2000 machine....can I copy necessary boot files to the broken xp?
