Posing hand on hip in a cutaway dress, Drew Barrymore has an announcement to make.
She has joined the growing number of celebrities who have stopped shaving under their arms - and don't care who knows it.
The 29-year- old Charlie's Angels star made her fashion statement at a New York catwalk event featuring designer Marc Jacobs.
With his penchant for dressing models in combat boots and army-style jackets, Jacobs is famed for his grunge-inspired look - and Drew certainly fitted in.
One of those attending the event at the Lexington Avenue Armory observed: 'She looked absolutely stunning but all people were talking about backstage were her hairy armpits.'
Born into one of Hollywood's great acting dynasties, the granddaughter of John Barrymore has never shunned publicity.
She appeared in her first advert at nine months and her first TV movie aged two. She hit the big time aged seven, as the cherubic Gertie in Steven Spielberg's ET: The Extra-Terrestrial.
By the age of nine she had become a heavy drinker and at 11 turned to drugs.
She entered rehab for the first time when she was 13 - and returned for a second spell within a year.
In 1994 she married Welsh bar owner Jeremy Thomas but it lasted just seven weeks while her second marriage, to Canadian comic Tom Green, ended in divorce three years
ago. She is rumoured this week to have dumped latest boyfriend Fabrizio Moretti, drummer with the rock group The Strokes.
By going for the natural look armpit-wise, she is in famous company. In April 1999 Julia Roberts revealed her secret as she waved to the crowd at the UK premiere of Notting Hill.
A year ago Elizabeth Jagger posed, arms aloft, in a series of portfolio photos sporting an extravagant curly perm with matching accessories.
Actress Helena Bonham Carter is also known to shun the razor, as are Emma Thompson and Miranda Richardson.
By contrast, the macho men of Chelsea Football Club have given the red card to upper body hair.
Several stars stripped off their shirts following last week's victory over Blackburn Rovers to reveal waxed chests gleaming under the floodlights.
The trend was started by England player Frank Lampard, who was photographed on holiday last year sporting a smooth top half - including hairless armpits.
Follow that up with the application of burning, stinging, dehydrating agents such as perfumed deodorants and antiperspirants we're not to far from A root cause or at least a variable to the high rate of breast cancer in America. If circumcision can provide protection nasty diseases, is it impossible that shaved armpits can contribute to the develop of a nasty condition? The trans-dermal application of carcinogens and their storage in fatty tissue, such as the fatty tissue found near breast is possible. Consider the location of where most lumps detected lumps are found.
"Jeez, just what we need, celebreties giving our wives yet another excuse not to shave... its hard as hell for em to consistently shave their legs after they get that ring on their finger... no way I'm letting the armpit thing go... Wife decides to go french on that one, I'm outta there."
Nice banner!
!@#$! D@mnit, that song is going to be stuck in my head all day! ...grrr!...
Hey no Barf alert? wadup with dat?
I just don't understand why they need to give us unspoken statements??
I think my wife looks super-hot with dirt on her face after a day of gardening with me, but then again, I also like to help her clean up afterwards.
heh
Hairy armpits are so 70's!!
" I don't know a man who is turned on by 'sloppy'."
You don't see the irony of saying women don't shave aren't slaves to fashion magazines when Drew Barrymore (subject of story) was at an event for a fashion designer???
The 29-year- old Charlie's Angels star made her fashion statement at a New York catwalk event featuring designer Marc Jacobs.
I think it's personal decision if a woman wants to shave or not, but it is what is considered the norm in our society. I know that is not the case in Europe, but since it is the norm here it is always a bit shocking when women stop shaving.
I remember riding on a bus in Greece back when I was in the army. about 1972 and I saw a young woman who was the most beautifull Greek Girl I had ever seen..She looked Like a 19 year old Sophia Loren! then she raised her arm to take hold of the hand rail on the Bus and I saw the Hairiest arm pit I had ever seen on Man or Woman!! It took all the wind out of my sails that day. I guess it is "Culture shock"
But why is it "wrong" for our Culture to prefer a woman to have a shaved body? If we think it is attracive.. then so be it...If Julia Roberts wants hair, and Drew wants Hair...
why not go all the way and not shave their legs? or their face..someone will still find them attracive..
Like Janet Reno.
Personally, I don't mind a bit of armpit hair but I do find hairy legs a turn-off.
Everyone has their own tastes. I do think this culture has definate preferences in a woman though, and not much tolerance for women who don't fit the standard.
"What about hairy-legged women?
Personally, I don't mind a bit of armpit hair but I do find hairy legs a turn-off."
Hair or the lack of it, does make a difference though.
Ever pet a shaved cat?
I suppose it just jars my preconceptions...
Gooney goo goo.
Oh really? Girly men, huh. What about those of us who do not have a lick of hair on our chests? (OK I have exactly seven if you're counting). My Dad always said:
Huh? How does shaving stop the glands from producing pheromones??? Deodorants and especially anti-perspirants I can maybe see since they are absorbed. Although blocked would be a better way of putting it.
