Last night's show was stupid because they went through hours and hours of high-tech snooping to finally find out that murdered was the woman's stepmother -- and then, only at the end, did someone discover a motive: the stepmother would get millions as executor of the grandkid's estate. Well, why didn't they find out about financial implications of the death AT THE BEGINNING OF THE INVESTIGATION -- I guess that would have meant no need for hours of high-tech investigation to figure out a suspect, so no need for the entire episode.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is one of the most watched shows on television. Is it also the most fantasized about? Like a forensic investigation exhuming a body, a simple Web search unearths a seething niche subculture of CSI: "fanfic," the often sexually explicit fiction written by fans that imagines TV characters living their lives in the interstitial moments between shows. Some of the literature spawned by CSI is "slash," or gay-themed, some is straight, but an inordinate amount of it focuses on the off-screen cavortings of Gil Grissom, the lead investigator played by William Petersen. For those of you who haven't watched the show, Gil is hardly the most obvious object of erotic longing; he's a gray-haired, slightly dumpy, middle-aged workaholic who probably smells faintly of formaldehyde, and whose social skills are inversely proportional to his forensic acumen. Whence the mystique? Why are so many people in love with Gil Grissom?
Grissom's closest analogue in TV history may be Star Trek's Mr. Spock

Let me correct my typos: They needed to do high-tech stuff, for hours and hours, to hit on a suspect. But simply checking the will at the outset would have pointed to the stepmother.
Why bother watching fictional forensic investigations when you can watch the real thing on Court TV and A&E, and occasionally Discovery Channel.
No, it's even easier. My husband and I called it as soon as we saw the "mother" even before we knew she was a stepmother only we got the motive wrong... we thought she and the husband were having an affair but we knew she was evil.
And since I'm married to an engineer type I love the lab rat thing. I actually think he's more of a Moulder type although a bit older and chunkier.
What does this thread have to do with anything? Who gives a daM# about CSI? This should be removed...
This could be listed differently but I wouldn't spend an hour watching this. I saw a few of the 1st episodes, which were not bad but the theme & writing soon starts to disappear. Ergo reading this 30 second review saves the time of watching but keeps one informed.

CSI is frankly an early "shark jumper" for a major drama show. ER didn't jump the shark for quite a while. I will admit that CSI is a much more subtle shark jumper than ER. No helicopters have fallen on the investigators yet and no tanks have sent shells through the laboratory. But making someone gag and then sampling the results, or having an episode with 10,000 gunshots through the walls at the crime scene aren't serious.

That's true, but CSI likes to think it's more intelligent than that, and as a regular viewer, I have to agree that a simple question like that would not generally be overlooked. Unless it's a Feb sweeps month attempt at pointing out how having the original team, led by Peterson's character, is less effective since being split up by the new, evil director.
And I have to agree with the author, not only is Peterson sexy in his role, but most of the male characters are also very sexy. Not always in an obvious Brad Pitt kind of way, more in a subtle way, through their character's morals and attitudes and such, and, yes, appearance. Real substance, unusual for a TV show. And fun to watch for us ladies.
Because those shows don't have George Eads (Nick Stokes);)
I watch those in the evening sometimes too. My favorite is on Court TV, Body of Evidence with Dayle Hinman. She's a brillant forensics investigator. I also like American Justice on A&E with Bill Kurtis.

Just the kind of stuff the Ignorant Masses love to watch. I should clarify I watched it once, and never again.
