DAFFY FAITH OF 'DHARMA' STAR
NY Post ^ | 2/25/05 | Richard Johnson

Posted on 02/25/2005 8:18:20 AM PST by pissant

SEXY starlet Jenna Elfman has gotten so deeply into Scientology that her main goal these days is to help it take over the world. Scientology "is a complete understanding of what is happening on the planet right now," Elfman, best known for her role on "Dharma & Greg," told Scientology magazine Celebrity. She boasts that she's on the second-to-last "Operating Thetan" or "OT" level in the organization's hierarchy.

Elfman says you must devote yourself to Scientology or "you could be dead." Fellow celeb Scientologists include Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Lisa Marie Presley.

Scientologists who reach "OT 3" are told about "Xenu," a galactic ruler who paralyzed humans and sent them back to Earth in spaceships 75 million years ago, reports CultNews.com, which closely follows the faith. They were then arranged around a volcano and murdered with H-bombs, but their souls are still hanging around and are known as "Body Thetans" or "BTs."

Scientology devotees pay big bucks to "clear" themselves of the BTs' negative influence through a series of costly courses. Elfman tells the magazine her "duty" is now to help "clear the planet." She declares, "I intend to make Scientology as accessible to as many people as I can, and that is my goal."

Elfman's career hasn't exactly taken off like Xenu's spaceship, however. Since "Dharma & Greg" was canceled, she's appeared in a series of flops. This she seems to attribute to what Scientologists call "Suppressive People" or "SPs."

"The more successful I became, the more suppression I bumped into," Elfman says. "Especially in the entertainment industry, which is really home to rabid suppression . . . I don't have time as a leader, as an OT and as an artist to be suppressed.

Scientology is further proof that PT Barnum was right.

I tried reading Dianetics in college. Read 80 pages then decided to use the book to replace a missing foot on my old couch.

You just know L Ron Hubbard just had to be thinking to himself, "these suckers actually bought it?!?"

She's a fool. Apparently, she does not realize that she lives in a bathtub, serving as a living battery for the machines which took over the planet several hundred years ago. I guess she missed the memo.

To loosly quote Niven & Pournelle, there is a special place in Hell for Science Fiction writers who invent their own religions.

In other words, her career has completely tanked and she needs a distraction other than selling hair-care products on QVC, because that sort of livelihood just doesn't allow one to be sufficiently self-righteous.

What a dufas. Dharma and Greg sucks anyways; it's an unwanted interruption between King of the Hill episodes.

Hubbards been dead for a while, but when he was alive he was famously quoted as saying "the quickest way for someone to get rich would be to start your own religion."

Scientologists who reach "OT 3" are told about "Xenu,"

great...but now this article just TOLD ME about "Xenu"...spoiling the whole thing. why would I bother reaching "OT3" now? (snicker) My mother-in-law used to do that with movies, "and you'd never guess that it was the NEIGHBOR who killed him".

I have heard the whole thing started as a bet with Asimov that he could start a religion - and he did.

Harlan Ellison once wrote that from his limited friendship with Hubbard (they exchanged mostly cards and phone calls) he thought Hubbard never fully believed in his religion, but "knew a good thing when he saw it". He said Hubbard was a decent guy who didn't actually believe the mythology per se but thought the methods worked to help people, whatever their basis. He also suggested Hubbard thought his followers were a bit wacked, and that Hubbard's inner circle may have been a lot more manipulative than Hubbard himself.

And I still think Jenna Elfman is NOT a hottie--too ditzy, too many teeth. She's blonde and skinny--is that all it takes for someone to be considered hot? (Sarah Jessica Parker, for example--blech!)
