BRAVEHEART star Mel Gibson yesterday warned a stalker he would be in grave danger if he tried to break into his house.

The 49-year-old told a court he would not be able to control his "six able-bodied sons" if homeless drifter Zach Sinclair got too close.

Staring at Sinclair, Gibson added: "I have concerns he will try to enter my property. I can't say what my sons will do to him if they find him.

"My wife doesn't want to find him in the living room drinking tea."

The Passion of the Christ director, whose boys are aged from 22 down to six, told how Sinclair first came to his Malibu home in July last year and had asked for him on the entryphone.

Gibson told of his shock when Sinclair then suddenly turned up at his church.

He said: "He sat right next to me and said 'Hi, I'm Zach Sinclair. I'm here to pray with you'. He seemed belligerent and agitated."

Sinclair was arrested in September when he again showed up without warning at the family home in Malibu. He was served with a restraining order to stay away from Gibson's properties and family.

But as soon as he left jail Sinclair made a beeline for the Malibu house where he was arrested on October 7.

As well as stalking Gibson and his family Sinclair, from Idaho, also sent a dozen letters, Van Nuys Superior Court in California was told.

In one he told Gibson: "You have been used by God to send his love to millions."

Gibson told the court: "I realised that I was dealing with someone who was deluded. He believed I had paid his bail, which I did not."

Sinclair , who faces 16 months in jail for breaching the court order, turned down an opportunity to grill Gibson himself saying he relied on God for his defence.

The trial is expected to last until Wednesday.

Gibson and his wife Robyn, who are due to celebrate their silver wedding in June, have six sons and a daughter.

They are Hannah, 24, twins Edward and Christian, 22, William, 20, Louis, 17, Milo, 15, and Thomas, six.
