NEW YORK (AP) -- Mark McGwire's name was mentioned several times during a federal steroids investigation in the early 1990s but he was not the target of the probe nor was any evidence collected against him, the Daily News reported Sunday.
McGwire, Jose Canseco and several current players along with four baseball executives were subpoenaed to testify at a congressional hearing on steroids March 17. The commissioner's office has said it will fight the subpoenas. McGwire, Jason Giambi, Sammy Sosa and Rafael Palmeiro haven't said whether they'll show up in Washington.

Personally I don't care what ball players do.
If someone wants to assume the risk of developing brain cancer by 40 or dying of heart attack at 43 because of steroids, I could care less. Just sign a waiver saying that MLB and whatever controlling legal authority are not responsible. However, contractually if they sign an agreement not to do it, then they are responsible not to do it.

Children and young adults adulate these players, and if they feel the only way they can compete (at the HS, Collegiate, or professional level) is by taking ILLEGAL drugs then there is a MAJOR problem.
I never thought I see the day that Freepers would condone cheating.
I don't know if it is cheating, but I will agree that the post is very stupid. No one who likes baseball is going to have so laissez-faire an attitude about the athletes.
You are able to comprehend the term ILLEGAL... yes Doggy?
