*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

She'll go back to being dark in the winter, the reddish look was just sunburn, and she should shed out to about the same blue color every summer.

No, she isn't gaited. I'm much better now but still tend not to give her enough slack at times so I needed something that I could control her with but not be heavy in her mouth. That's what my trainer said anyway. She ordered it for me. I was looking for a pic on net. I'm headed out there in a little bit so I'll take a picture. It's a roller though.

Pulling and releasing. Boy, do I know that routine. Sarah Lee just wants to get faster and faster. I have to really work to keep her at the same speed. The trainer says, I'm training her and she's learning. I'll just have to take her word for it. That she horse has got such a smooth, comfortable jog but she likes that trot that bumps my kidneys and brain together:') I found another speed she can go now though. The trainer called it a trail ride walk. I liked that one too. She must have at least 5 gears in each gait!

And would you like to sell them? The magazines I mean.

There is a big fight brewing in the ApHC right now. Big guys are trying to push through another program to replace CPO (which now says you have to breed back to reg. papered App) - I think they are calling it API or something.

There really isn't any reason to outcross anymore - every possible body type is available in the Appaloosa gene pool and all of the major AQHA, Thoroughbred and Arab sires have registered appaloosa get. People do it now because it's easy, because they are too lazy to deal with an app personality, because they really want a quarter horse LOL - lots of reasons but none of them sound.

Okay - off my soap box.

We don't show in appaloosa shows anymore, haven't since about '97.

Since we show in open shows, we can show all our kids, solid or not.

Boy what a change. That's a bigger color change than an appy from winter to summer :)

Roan horses are funny. This winter Rusty looked like a solid bay. I don't reallly know when it happened but now he looks very white on his body. It just happened:) I think he's looked dull because he's still shedding. Yesterday out in the sun he looked better.

Well I rode the black QH mare today. It was probably the best ride I've ever had on her. It's the first time that she didn't take off on me, or spook at one of the dogs or at nothing at all. My legs are shot though, because it takes loads more effort to keep them under me on her then it does on anyone else I've ridden. She goes in a snaffle, but she pulls right through it, and LOVES to lean on my hands big time, because she feels that I need to hold her up. It's like holding up a cinder block, and my arms are killing me. It's going to be an early night for me!

I kind of think I understand the part about holding her up:') Glad you had a good ride. I'm going riding in the morning. I'm managing two times a week. My trainer wants 3-4 but I'm doing the best I can right now. She did tell me last week that I'm going to be a great rider. We'll see but it made me feel good.

Self esteem boosts are always great! Congratulations!
My trainer thinks that I'm a horse phobic because I like to ride ponies. I like to ride ponies because they're easier for me to mount and dismount from. I'm so stiff all the time that horses can be a real job.

I have thought about it. The shipping costs would be the problem thou. They are really fun to look at, all the old time horses, the builders of the breed. It's going to be a really bad weekend, weather wise here. I might get a chance to look and see what is all there.

That doesn't seem fair. You are a petite person. I've progressed to the small block but I can't get my leg up that high yet.I have to bring my foot almost up to my chest:')I got an ad for a pony today. 12 y/o . Won some ribbons. He sounded like a good deal and I was thinking about the grandkids until I got to the bottom. 7000 dollars !

Here are pics from setting up camp out there... we've got to go back out and build a fire and actually ~camp~ (get away from computer) but I thought these were funny. Cyn is a really funny horse, unlike any I've had before.

Wheeled our stuff into the campsite and found horses there... Cyn comes to check out the scary wheelbarrow...

...and immediately starts pulling stuff out.

I set up the chair, which was interesting to her...

And I lay out the tarp flat on the ground that will go under the tent...

Which she paws into a rumple...

I finally got the tent set up, and had to bring her back with me to post these, locking her out of there or I'm sure she'd destroy it while we were gone :~D

See you all later, we're signing off... hope you thought these were funny and that there aren't too many!

Well, as you look through them, remember you probably have a buyer here should you decide to clean house :)

Let me know if you run into any articles on First Secretary, or pictures.

LOL - So, you going to lock Cyn in the barn or did you make room for her in the tent?
