There is a nice article in the latest issue of National Review about the Maryland Governor. It sounds like he is making good progress there, and seems popular
My Question: Can he win the soon to be vacant senate seat there?
Your thoughts please....
Governor Ehrlich and Lt. Governor Steele are doing just fine where they are. The Dems will go full bore to fill Sarbane's seat. Especially in the harcore blue Baltimore, Montgomery and PG Counties.
Can't think of a decent Republican to battle against Mfume and whoever else passes Dem muster.
Jack.
Bump
I've heard talk in FR about Steele, but he and Ehrlich are so tight I can't see them messing with that unless the Lt. Governor wa a lock.
I think the long term strategy is for Ehrlich to continue cleaning up after Paris Glendenning at which point Steele could run for Governor in 2010 (?) and Ehrlich who is young, charismatic and frisky could put an end to the reign of stupidity that we've suffered under Senator Babs .I'm not sure all my dates work out for this scenario though, but I call it the Virginia Model.
I believe all the major Demcratic lefties; Mfume, O'Malley and Duncan could knock each other out. Cardin's a lib, seems like a decent guy, however is too low-key. Actually a lot like Sarbanes. I could live with Hoyer, but I think he's staying out because he knows what a food fight it's going to be.
Van Hollen scares the heck out of me! He's a smart and young and liberal. He outflanked Morrella for her seat in congress and I think he could get that spot.
I don't believe the GOP has anyone strong enough to put up a good fight for this seat. I'd love to be wrong.
Hey, what's Wayne Gilchrist up to these days??
