A few minutes ago, CNN's Inside Politics aired its daily blog segment, and the focus was naturally on reaction to the election of Benedict XVI.
One of the hostettes cited a blog entry from "a gay man in Tennessee," and his entry could be seen on the screen. The hostette read the part in which the man wrote something to the effect "leave it to the Church to find someone to the right of JPII. Can't wait till he starts bashing women, gays, etc."
But the CNN hostette conveniently failed to read the remainder of the man's post, which astute viewers could see on the screen:
"The good news is that Ratzinger is 78 and should die soon."
I would say that this kind of vile sentiment is at least as newsworthy as this man's musings on Benedict's policy positions. Yet CNN chose to suppress it. Gee, I wonder why?
As a Jew, I would wish the new Pope the traditional Jewish: "may you live to 120!"
"This is the worst possible choice. May his reign be short."

I have a friend who attended St. Mary's - the companion college to Notre Dame - while her husband was at ND. They are both liberals, and I emailed her on her thoughts, knowing she wouldn't be happy.
Even so I was shocked at her response. She said they "were
just talking about him last month before JPII died and were all hoping he was on his way out as well!"
To which this Baptist says "Amen!" Already I can hear the popping sounds of liberal brains exploding all over the western world. Think of the Martians in the movie "Mars Attacks". ;)
All they want is for the world to revolve around them. Christianity doesn't allow that, so they go off on a hissy fit at anyone who stands in the way of what they want. I've yet to understand how that can be defined as progressive.
Isn't it interesting to see how this wise choice by the Catholic Church can bring Baptists and Jews together?
I have also been grateful for the support of Israel expressed by many traditional Protestants. Perhaps we are entering an age of true brotherly love - at least among conservatives.

That the last pope to take the name Benedict, Benedict XV, was elected after Rampolla's election was blocked at the 1903 conclave due to allegations of secret society membership may have dawned on a few of the more seasoned and professional anti-Catholic liberal observers. The conservatives held all the cards in this game.
The gays should be more tolerant.
Close....."God be thanked for the Panzerpope" (as I understand it, the Holy Father was called "der Panzerkardinal" by his German admirers due to his resolute adherance to Church teaching, and his defense of the Church against those who would harm it). It's kind of cool for me at least to be able to understand the Holy Father in his native language for a change.....
You're far too kind, my friend. I read that thread, and these people are spewing hate that's palpable. If some of those individuals are in my parish, or diocese, I would suggest they find a church that would adapt more readily to their lack of faith and desire to violate St. John the Divine's warning at the end of Revelation to not change or alter the Word of God. Perhaps the UCC might fit their pistol?
